Loose sockets/light switches

I’m not DIY or Electrics Savvy so thought I’d post (what is probably a silly question!) here 😁

I moved into a new build home last March. Recently I’ve noticed some of the sockets/light switches are a bit loose and will move ever so slightly if you give them a wiggle. When pulling plugs out they also come away from the wall a bit (again not much). I’m wondering if this is due to the house settling maybe but I’m not sure how to fix them! Is it just a case of tightening them or do I need anything else checked?

I’m a bit worried it’s caused wiring problems and I’d rather not burn my house down!

Yes just tighten the screws a little, they often loosen a bit over time. They just need to be firm, about the same as a jar jar lid.

I presume you mean the external switches/plugs and not the internal component?
If yes you should be able to just tighten them up with a screwdriver.

It's most likely down to settling and nothing to worry about.

Screws probably just need tightening.

If they have blanking caps fitted (which means you can't see the screw head) just prise them off with a suitable little tool.
