Game changer home ideas

Self closing kitchen cupboard doors. I'm in awe. Just had a kitchen makeover. You push the doors like you normally do but they then just pull themselves to close, silently. Ok, I'm easily pleased. Tell me your game changer home things. Anything for an easier life or just pure amusement.

A microwave, where the bottom does not 'spin'. Suddenly you can warm up that lasagna again in its rectangular oven dish, without it getting stuck against the microwave's sides on turning.

Invert a low dish over the centre (a Pots & co pot is ideal), replace the microwave plate and it stays still.

Interesting.
Though you can take out the shamrock shaped thing ( it just pulls out) and the plate and ring and achieve the same effect.

Can anyone with a Japanese toilet recommend a brand? I have wanted one for ages but get overwhelmed with what I al

Wireless phone charger. No fussing with cables

Whatsinstorenow · 29/01/2025 04:19

@RocketNan , look at TOTO washlet.

Windows with the blinds built in between the panes of glass.

Especially in bathrooms snd kitchens.
I love the fact no blinds get in the way of open windows but more importantly don't go mouldy/stained above sinks and in in damp bathrooms.
I can have things on the windowsill and open and close the blinds without moving anything...same with cleaning the windows.

We have several dark cupboards and wardrobes that we've struggled to find stuff in (using the torch on our phone usually!)
Why on earth it took me til 2024 to discover motion sensor battery lights I do not know. Packs of 3 from eBay for a tenner - it's changed my life 😂

Visited a friend on the Netherlands. Toilet washed and dried you at the push of a button. Will endeavour to get one as we age.

Not to everyone’s taste, but moving my hob to the island, so I’m not facing the wall but instead have a line of sight to the garden, playroom and can chat with guests in the kitchen.

Going to remember this one for when we come to do our kitchen. I spend quite a lot of time cooking and it would be nice to be able to face people when doing so.

Toto washlets. There’s only a few models - the ‘basic one’, the ‘better one’ where the lid opens and closes as you approach so you don’t need to touch it, and the ‘best one’ which flushes automatically so you don’t need a flush plate. The washing and heating functions are, I think, identical for all 3. We have a basic one in the kids’ bathroom, and two better ones in the other bathrooms. There’s not a huge price difference between basic and better, but the best one is a lot more expensive.

There’s also a German equivalent by Geberit, my friend has lots of them in her house and seems happy with them.

Finger printed door. No more kids losing their keys.

Also is constantly locked from the outside so I don't have to lock/unlock the door from the inside ever!

This sounds very modern! I've never heard of it before. Do you mean they can use their finger prints to open the door?!
