Help me decide a colour scheme please!

We are having some work done soon to create an open plan kitchen/living room and have chosen new worktops and flooring. They are almost identical to the flooring and worktops pictured below.

I can’t decide what colour scheme to go for. I’d like to add some colour and warmth to the room, usually I play it safe and go for neutral colours (old house was painted in Dulux Egyptian cotton and I had grey sofas… very boring!).

Im useless with interiors so I don’t know where to begin with choosing! Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Farrow and Ball Vert de terre would be a good introduction to more colour, especially if you could paint the bottom units in a darker green studio green would be nice or lichen if you didn't want to go too dark. Maybe add some accent colour - orange or lilac?

You've chosen really neutral floor and worktops, so you could pick literally any colour and it'd work. So really, you need to decide what you like best...

So, what are you doing in the room? Calm relaxing cooking? Loud, happy socializing? How do different colours make you feel? Do you like one strong colour with lots of neutrals or lots of different colours all jumbled up?

Grab a couple of interior magazines, look through them, see which ones you're drawn to then pick out the bits you like. Go on the Farrow and Ball website ( you don't have to buy their paint but they have loads of good interior shots ) and look through their colours etc.

If still no inspiration, go look in your wardrobe, or get your favorite piece of art, and work with that.

I really don't see how anyone can suggest the right color for you, you have to pick it yourself.

Ooo thank you! I like that colour. My DS’ nursery is muzzle by farrow and ball and seems quite similar. It works really well in the south facing room he’s in!

Thank you, I’m thinking loud happy socialising! We currently have a ‘calm’ living room with lick white 03 on the walls (yellow undertone), with a beige sofa and burnt orange accessories.

Will it look silly having a ‘loud’ room off the ‘calm’ room? We need to walk through the current living room to get to the new space

From the sounds of the rest of your house, go for warm neutrals. Brown, cream, taupe etc You can't really go wrong.

Thank you, I was hoping to add a colourful ‘pop’ but don’t want it to look daft!

I would add the colour via accessories eg pictures, tea towels, kettle, rug etc

Oooo I really love a deep ochre yellow at the moment, that's joyful and would go with your other room?
I absolutely think it's ok to have a loud room off a calm room, eyes love contrast. Just so long as you're happy with peoples eyes going straight to the loud bit 😊

Thanks, yes I’ll probably keep the walls neutral. I wonder if I could keep it the same colour as the existing living room (lick white 03) and add colourful accessories. I really like colourful abstract rugs like the one pictured and perhaps could add cushions and accessories one of the colours from the rug?

Sounds perfect. The great thing is you can swap the accessories when you fancy a change.
