Shower in downstairs bathroom

We have a 4 bed house but it only has 1 family bathroom upstairs and a small loo downstairs. With 2 children rapidly approaching teen years we are starting to struggle with time in the bathroom in the morning!

We are looking at having some work done that would mean we could add a shower to the downstairs loo.

Would this feel odd to you? Nobody I know has a shower in their downstairs loo. I don’t know if future buyers would like this or not.

There are no other places we could put another shower so that’s not an option.

Ours is more of a boot room. Shower, toilet, sink, coats, boots, hoover cupboard etc. Just by the back door. I’d not have a wet room in this location.

It's an essential for me, particularly with only one upstairs bathroom. It's sensible future proofing.

I have a shower in my downstairs loo, I also have a guest bedroom downstairs so it works really well.

Same here, shower and downstairs loo with a guest room/junk room.
So handy!

I have an upstairs family full suite bathroom and a downstairs family sized shower and toilet suite. Fabulous to have when you come home or from the garden all mucky. Two bed terrace!

My poshest friends have a shower in their very lovely downstairs loo. I wish we had room for one, for all the reasons PPs have given

Watch this weeks ' love it or list it' with Kirsty and Phil on channel,4 on how to put a shower in a small downstairs loo.

We had a downstairs shower room at a previous home, which was a 3 floor townhouse. I did think it was a little odd at first and thought we’d never use it as the bedrooms were on the top floor. How wrong I was - we used it almost everyday!

If you have lots of guests might be a long trek for them so might be better to add a ensuite to the guest room

Two good reasons for one: sporty kids or adults with muddy kit and legs, and elderly people who might need to live downstairs in the future. I know three families with one who say it’s great. The only downside is that there’s a bit more to clean before you have guests who are only seeing downstairs, but the advantages far outweigh that!
