Where to live in Nottingham

Moving to Nottingham soon - 37, single and no kids. Lots of friends and family in the area but a bit clueless on where to base myself.

So far, I’ve been looking at West Bridgford and certain pockets of city centre - The Park and Hockley. But interested to know if I’m missing certain areas.

I want to be somewhere busy - cafes, nice pubs, restaurants, etc. Also need to be close to the station as I’ll be travelling to either London or Leeds for work once a week.

Got viewings lined up, but are there any other areas I should be considering?

Suggest renting in the Barnum! It's a gorgeous new apartment block right across from the station.

West Bridgford is the nicest part of Nottingham. Hockley is also nice, but right in the city centre, so maybe too much traffic? The city centre is bloody awful to drive round and park in, so bear that in mind.

Good to know. I’ll take a look at the Barnum. Thank you.

I know the traffic is a nightmare and despite driving around Notts regularly for 20 years I still can’t figure out the one way system 😂

And watch out for the trams!

And watch out for the trams!

Forgot to mention in my OP that I went to NTU so lived in the city for four years. The amount of near misses I’ve had with trams means I know to always look carefully before I cross the road 😂

Try Beeston or Bramcote as well.

BellissimoGecko · 18/01/2025 13:09

Bramcote is further out - not close to the train station. And maybe not as lively as OP hoped?

Mapletreelane · 18/01/2025 14:08

If i was young and single i would move to the Park in a heartbeat! (budget allowing!) . You're 10 to 15 min walk city centre and Hockley, but the Park is calmer to live in and more green space and fresh air and not so many drunk people in the evening!

West Bridgford would be next on the choice, again bars, restaurants, green space and 15 mins car /bus from station. The

Barnum looks great apartments but horrible area right by station, surroubded by busy roads, no green space and a not very nice 15 min walk to Hockley.

Good luck op.

All those areas are ok. West Bridgford has coffee shops etc but I struggle with the miasma of smugness (perhaps it's just in my head). The Broadmarsh redevelopment is getting some momentum at so the Park or Hockley will be well placed and you can just walk where you need to.

Missed the bit about the station! Yeah, Bramcote is maybe not the best suggestion then.

Beeston would be my go-to. Lots of shops and bars ect but still residential with its own train station with direct links to London.

I currently live in stapleford and I like it here too. But a bit far out for trains to London.

Beeston is lovely and you can walk to the station for trains to London.

But I don't think OP needs to walk to Hockley?

Agree that there's not much green space around the Barnum, but it's right by the station and the flats are lovely. There's a gym, work and socialising spaces downstairs, etc, and it's walking distance to the town centre, bars and so on.
