I'd be interested to know if the style of porch has a particular name too.
TIA

I think that particular type of porch is known as a storm porch and the archway is Gothic style....but I'm no expert.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2025 12:18

I'd mentally label it "Victorian" as it has that feel to it.

Jins · 15/01/2025 12:21

Arts and crafts style.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2025 12:21

The porch is inset or recessed I think. Fairly sure it is indeed a Gothic style arch.

HolidayAtNight · 15/01/2025 12:22

I would say somewhere between Gothic Revival and Arts and Crafts - late Victorian period maybe?

ThePoshUns · 15/01/2025 12:23

I'd say arts and crafts style

Lonelycrab · 15/01/2025 12:23

Yes gothic was the first thing I thought. But it’s only really the arch, the rest of the house is struggle to put a style on.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2025 12:32

Before reading the listing I'd thought "Victorian vicarage" based just on the photo 😂

that fits with arts and crafts and not Victorian/Edwardian

Having looked at the listing I'd agree that it's not Victorian- the ceilings aren't high enough and the interior "bones" don't look right.

Jins · 15/01/2025 12:34

It’s definitely arts and crafts. Not a very good example but it’s definitely arts and crafts.

The porch is called a recessed porch. The arch isn’t significant, it’s just decorative

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 15/01/2025 12:38

"Expensive"

Edited

It's called "The Old Vicarage", so you're right on the vicarage point!

mistymorning12 · 15/01/2025 13:01

It's 1920's one of the oldest houses in the village, some developer is trying to knock it down! Trying to find the right language to put in our objection.

It's on the local council's local heritage list(see my link above), although doesn't appear to be listed - I would hope that provides some protection against knocking it down? But you'd need to look into what grounds you can object to planning permission applications.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 15/01/2025 13:05

It's lovely

Yes, it's on the heritage listing luckily.

Arts and crafts style.

I thought it’s a joke but then googled it ….
good thing it didn’t happen in a conversation 🙈

Ah, interestingly this link says it was built in 1846: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/1188f0e9084044d584d1d6ade22c0371 - see number 24 on this list. It definitely looks like it's been extended over the years though,so perhaps the more arts and crafts features have been added.

I mean, the pointy shape (technical term) of the porch is definitely gothic style, as per the very popular gothic revival style.

Wigeon · 15/01/2025 13:15

This also says built 1846 (not sure why there are two heritage list listings):
