IKEA Pax or Besta for Kitchen Pantry

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately I can't afford a new kitchen, but I desperately need more storage space. I have an empty space in my kitchen which measures approximately 60cm across and the depth is about 45 cm. I'd like to put a freestanding cupboard/pantry there so that I can use the space for storage and hide all my clutter. I'd like a unit with 5 or 6 shelves and a door so that all the mess is hidden.

I've been looking at 2 options from Ikea, the Pax and the Besta. They are wardrobes/living room furniture but I think they would work as a kitchen pantry. The Besta one below is the perfect size that I need but it has bad reviews and its putting me off. I am also looking at the single Pax wardrobe which is 50cm wide and is approximately 200cm high.

Which of the 2 looks less wardrobe like? And which will hold more? If anyone has either the Pax or Besta, how are they holding up?

Thanks

Why not use a Metod unit in 60 width by 37 or 60 depth? They are 200 or 220 tall.

You can customise in different ways - I put drawers in the lower section and shelves with a door higher up. Drawers are so useful!

I have Pax and Besta for bedroom and hallway storage, but chose Metod in both depths for my additional pantry space.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion.

I did cone across Metod but on the product information it says 'To be completed with legs and plinth, sold separately. Suspension rail sold separately'.

I want the unit to he freestanding- will it look weird without a plinth?

Ok, I see.

Every tall unit will need anchoring to the wall for safety, so their suspension rail is their easy method to attach Metod to the wall. Really handy if you are using several units as it keeps them at the same height.

The legs would give clearance at the floor for the door to open, so a good point if this would be difficult for you to fit.

If you like Besta and it's only reviews putting you off, people don't often review when they are happy with a product.

I have a 3 drawer Besta in my bedroom (different dimensions to your photo). It isn't used much, but I've had no trouble with it and would buy again. It's a very popular product so surely it can't be that bad.
