What's everyone's experience of shower panels so these are the wall panels that fit in the shower.
Matt or gloss? What's easiest to clean? Are there different types? Where's best to buy them from and any other advice you can share would be much appreciated! Thank u!

Ours are aqua board and I've not seen a matt finish. They are marble effect, so much better than tiles. Much easier to clean

We have panels in one bathroom, if you have to fit them go for gloss, but light colours, NEVER anything dark because it will stain.

They look terrible though, no matter what pattern or colour, they will always look cheap and tacky.

Go for tile if you possibly can.

Windmill34 · 12/01/2025 22:55

If you do go for them
make sure you use light colours, scum marks stick to them
wipe down with squeezy every time as bottom silicone goes black
Not very good when joined as water eventually gets in the connected join of 2 shower board
Our fitter made do with 1 panel (even though we bought 2) and connected a join on both walls in the cubicle, when he could of used the full 2 panels we bought with no join 😡 obviously he took other back and claimed the money

Gosh that’s awful of him.

Wet wall panels are quite popular where we live (Scotland); I'd never really seen them much when I lived in England except in hotels. We have them in one bathroom. I don't really like the gloss finish, so we have a slightly textured matte finish on ours in a mid grey colour. It's never stained or leaked and looks quite good. We considered a tile-effect wet wall for another bathroom we did recently but in the end went for real tiles. Things to consider:

  • there are lots of different products available and the quality varies massively.
  • if you're getting a good product, it may not be any cheaper than tiles. The panels are expensive to buy, so you're likely to pay more per square metre, but potentially save money on fitting because they are quicker to fit and you don't have to pay a tiler.
For our recent bathroom, the panels we liked worked out just as expensive as buying the equivalent tiles and paying the tiler, so that's why we didn't go with it. But it would probably overall have been easier to clean.

@BarnacleBeasley @Windmill34 @printedword @Chiseltip which brands of boards did you use?

@rainaa what did you decide?

Thank you

I have Fibo extra matt in olive green and I love it. I didn't want shiny, marble or tile effect so that was perfect for me. I find it easy to maintain - squeegee after showering makes all the difference.

No idea for the one we actually got shower panels for, the plumber just brought some samples and I picked one. For the more recent one where we didn't get it, I think it was Fibo.

Love mine, Matt finish, easy to clean, had installed maybe 8 years ago now, no problems. Would do it again if I needed to renovate a bathroom
