Vent axia bathroom fan

As the title suggests, can anyone recommend their best option for a bathroom in a flat with condensation issues. The bathroom does have a window. I’ve been quoted a few hundred for one of theirs with fitting so I’m hoping they are effective at that price!

Doesn’t have to be a branded on, just a sufficient size for the room. Make sure it vents outside rather than just into loft space.

Thanks for replying. I want something really good. The current one vents outside but it isnt good enough. I think it sells for around £60. Perhaps the layout of my flat doesn’t help the steam to escape outside.

Do you open the window? No fan will be as effective as opening the window after showering. And fans work best with an air supply from somewhere, so either the door open or the window open.

A vent axia fan should be enough if you do this

I think you would just need a more powerful fan to fit in the same hole. I find the fan more effective than opening the window

Also get a butterfly valve fitted while they are at it. They open when drawing air out but choose against incoming air so you don't get a howling gale whistling through when the wind blows.

Obviously a house needs incoming air... But many/most have enough draughts around, and you don't want an the incoming air concentrated in one spot in the bathroom.

Thanks for the advice. I will look into the butterfly valve, Ive never heard of it before. And yes of course i open the window (and use a dehumidifier and a window vacuum etc) but I suppose some buildings hold moisture more than others

We've literally just had a Vent Axia fan fitted - £370 with fan and installation in London. Seems really good so far and is definitely helping with condensation.

Oh wow thanks for replying. Can you tell me which one you have? They make so many.

Oh wow so the fan itself is about £60 and then fitting it costs £300??

Yep, took him most of the day to bore through an external wall and do all the electrics. We got three quotes and they were all around the same price. We are based in London though so maybe cheaper elsewhere.

I would say DON'T open the window.

An open window is 'uncontrolled ventilation', and you may just create a route from window to fan. You want the fan to draw air from inside the flat/house.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been quoted more like £600 all in but they dont state exactly which fan it is so i want to make sure its a super amazing one at that price!

Thanks twoleftsocks, yes, reading up it seems that window closed while fan is on is the best advice though i imagine having the window open at some point is wise. Not sure about how it works if its a continuous running fan though.

OP- Another thing to look at is the dB of the fan. Ours come on automatically with the light, but in the middle of the night, a loud fan can be very annoying. In a previous property, we had to change to a quieter fan, because our neighbours could hear out fan through the bathroom wall!

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 18/01/2025 10:39

We have one of these in our bathroom, it came with the house so I know no details. Other than last week it stopped working. I called the repair team. Then last night in the dark there was this blue and red light flashing and it started working. Very odd. We have a window which we open and this fan doesn't seem to do much.

Rollercoaster1920 · 18/01/2025 13:08

I bought a vent axia with run on and humidistat. The higher speed setting was too loud to have overnight so had to use the lower one.
I think a humidistat and long run time are good to keep the air in the bathroom refreshing. Mine is in the wall. I think ceiling mounted would be better for expelling that warm most air due to convection.

Istilldontlikeolives · 18/01/2025 17:50

Goodness why are these things never easy? Yes i was thinking to get a humidistat one but I was concerned about noise - bathroom right next to bedrooms.

We recently changed ours as it had broken and electrician recommended Envirovent. It's humidity controlled so stops (on rare occasions) the shower room is dry but the fan is very quiet so it's not annoying.

Istilldontlikeolives · 19/01/2025 17:36

Ah ok thanks, I’ve emailed the company to see which one they are suggesting. Its strange that they quote such a high amount but dont say exactly which fan it is!
