Curtains for recessed windows

Hello. I am thinking of repacing the floor to ceiling curtains which hang outside the window recess with smaller curtains which fit within the recess and close to the actual window.

I have Googled trying to find some examples without success. If there are such things on the market then fine, if not I would have a crack at making something.

Any pointers welcomed.

You could have either a roller blind or a Roman blind which you fix to the ceiling of the window embrasure. Roman blind would probably be easier to fix , just drilling through the headboard into the ceiling ( although you would have to check how the window is held up : rsj, metal or wooden beam, could make for difficult drilling). And you have to work out what to do with the cord. Also, anything inside thé embrasure will impact how much light comes in

In our old house with lovely deep window sills, we had Roman blinds mounted just outside thé embrasure, slightly longer than the window . Draught buster but neat.

Actually looking again I think you could just mount the roller blind to the side walls of thé embrasure ( tricky to measure and cut, but I have done it).

You need a curtain rail which fixes to the ceiling of the recess - something like this, which you can cut to the exact size: https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-aluminium-uncorded-heavyweight-curtain-track-white/p110191966

@DampImpenetrableTumbleDryerBundle

The problem with that is that you end up with a lot of fabric inside thé embrasure, which would cut down in the light ( also OP seems to have a lot of things on the windowsill, so one would have to avoid them every time the curtain was drawn.
( PS love your user name, I hope your future encompasses an airing cupboard!)

I have a roman blind on a deep window like this. Was pricey, as custom made, but it's ideal.

Thanks to all.

Looks like a Roman blind could be the optimum solution so I got an online quote which came out at just shy of £100 per window. Is that about what you paid SleepyTraveller?

I think that the curtain rail option might result in too much gathered curtain material at each end.

Anyway, I have learnt a new word - "embrasure". Can't wait to slip it in to a conversation.

Mine was from a local place and was more than that (including fitting), so if you're happy with what's on offer from the place you've found it sounds like it could be a good deal
