Belongings left in a property after completion?

Completed on our new house purchase today and arrived at the new property to discover that the old owner has left behind a load of furniture and white goods even though we specifically requested the property to be completely vacant.

Spoken to the EA who has tried to get in contact with the vendor but no such luck - probably about 2/3 skips full but this would be an inconvenience to us… Any idea what we can do?

Do you know where they’ve moved to? I’d be worth the cost of hiring a van to go and dump it on their doorstep. CFs

speak to your solicitor. They should move them and there should be a formal letter to them. Otherwise you can charge them for the skips.

Call your solicitor pronto

If the contract stated 'vacant position', it's a matter for your solicitor rather than the EA. Contact them.

Definitely speak to your solicitors.

When we had this we hired a skip and our solicitor sent the bill to theirs - they sent us a cheque to cover the cost.

You may have to pay to get rid of it and bill them for the costs. Your solicitors should have a procedure for this.

I agree.

Should have said vacant possession! :)

We had the opposite to yourself, we paid for contents and the shit took a lot of them. When I voiced our grievance with our solicitor he advised me that I’d have to take him to the small claims court, problem was he’d left no forwarding details and didn’t give a shit!, it was a nightmare dealing with him.

It makes you wonder why you complete the TA10 form the solicitors ask you to complete, stipulating what you’re leaving, complete waste of time.
