black bathroom fixtures

Hi All, just wondered if anyone has advice re: chrome v black taps / shower fixtures etc - I am tempted by the aesthetic of black but I worry that 1) some people say they don't wear that well and are difficult to keep looking nice and 2) that it will date?

Bathroom fitter says compared to a few years ago the quality of black fixtures now are much better but I'm just not sure??

For those of you who have them, would you recommend them or would you advise to avoid?

Cheers 😄

Do you live in a hard or soft water area (or have a water softener)? We swapped ours out after a couple of years as they always looked grubby (hard water with water siftener).

I have a black kitchen tap.

Terrible decision.

Limescale really shows and the cleaning products you can use are v limited.

Yes we have in our bathroom. DO NOT DO IT. They are the bane of my life. We didn't buy cheap ones and we have been so careful with them but they look absolutely awful less than 4 years on. Colour has rubbed off all over, especially taps and plug holes and they never look clean. Massive huge regret

They are already dated. Brass is quite popular at the moment but if you want timeless then I would go for chrome. It is pretty easy to change a tap though so if you did buy black and change your mind it would be easy to fix. Same again if you go for a surface mounted shower.

thanks everyone.... this is my fear, good to find out now :)

Will it date? Yes. But will you get any joy out of non-offensive design that won't date? As poster above says, taps are not hard to change.

They may not be hard to change but we'd have to replace sink taps, sink plug holes, shower, bath taps bath plug. It's not cheap and you should get more than 3 years out of bathroom fixtures

I really like the look of black fixtures, but we have limescale and it is hard enough to keep them looking clean.
