Replacing cupboard doors, what colour?

The back of the cupboards are oak and the fronts are grey. Yes the previous tenant chose this.

I hate grey so am replacing the fronts but I can't stand the faux wood look so I will have to chose something different.

What colour will go nicely with the wood backs?

I have white sides and white metro tiles.

Backs are this sort of colour...

Bit confused about the question, can you see the backs?

Don't you need to consider coordinating with the worktop and floor more than the (hidden) cupboard backs?

Yes you can see the backs.

This is the best crappyrepresentation I can do on paint 🤣

The woodwork is oak, the backs, the sides, the bases etc.

Then the cupboard doors themselves are grey.
I have no idea why it was done this way.

So imagine that kitchen as is, but the doors are grey and that is what I'm working with.

I don't like the wood but I can't do anything about that

I can change the doors though as my absolute pet peeve in life is grey.

You say last tenant, so are you renting? If so your landlord might not want you to change/paint the doors.
I don’t think cupboard doors are standard size, when we were looking at new kitchens all the companies measurements were all slightly different, so will you even get doors to fit?

Yes I've already had it priced up.

It's social housing and I'm going to be here decades.

I'm removing the doors and storing then in the attic so if I do ever move (don't think I will) I will have the original doors to rehang if they want that.

But TBH I don't think I'll ever move and by then the kitchen will probably be due yo be replaced anyway

With Al due respect and kindness I was just asking what colours do people think will go with the wood backs, not if I'm entitled to decorate my home (I am! I can do any decorating and any non structural changes without permission)

I had mine spray painted, cost less than £600.
Farrow and ball Vert de terre, kinda like a pale sage green then I painted the wood that you could see cream.

I got a quote for painting but it was 1500! And it's a small kitchen!

The 1500 pound quote was for the whole kitchen including the base units. But I can't get the bsws painted as I have to be able to replace things back to the original. So I will just have to put up with the wooden backs.

But what about the worktop and floor colour style / colour?

I'll be laying new flooring and painting the walls so I can choose them.

The worktops are white.

Any colour will go with white worktops, white metro tiles and wood.

What colour are you painting the walls? What colours do you like?

I'd really like something quite cottagey. I do like pinks and greens.

But also been looking at deep dark blues and greens but think they may be too much

Denim blue with copper hardware?

You can't go wrong with light sage green. There's a very nice F&B paint called sulking room pink. I wouldn't advise navy blue as it's now dated.

Chewbecca · 08/01/2025 17:56

I think a really dusty pink would look good.

I think that would looks quite nice with the wood. White walls and tiles.

What about a deep, rich red like F&B Radicchio or Dulux Florentine Red from their Heritage range?

Crikeyalmighty · 08/01/2025 19:04

@KitschenCupboards I've got a similar kitchen and ours is a kind of lilac/pink ( rented house so couldn't say where from)

I think a sage green with the wood would look good, and you could use an appropriate shade of pink to get that nice cottage look you are after.

BuntyBeaufort · 08/01/2025 20:11

Yes, it could tone well with the oak.
It may seem a bit out there, but we had a light wood kitchen with deep red inside several glass fronted doors and it looked real good.

To help you decide you could buy several sample pots and a roll of lining paper. Paint door-sized pieces of paper, tape them to the doors and see what floats your boat.

Elodie09 · 09/01/2025 16:31

Pinterest is a very good place to look for ideas.
You could search for sage green and pink kitchens and
see if there are any pics there that you like.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
