Should I be worried?

We’ve had an awful time of moving. Our house sold quickly at full asking price and we found another house very quickly which was end of chain. Perfect!

Frustratingly our buyer pulled out right at the end of the process 😩

We sold again within one weekend of being on the market, chain complete again. We were told our new buyers were close to sale and were moving in with their parents and breaking the chain. Well, 8 weeks later and they’re still not sold and now it seems their buyer is organising a survey, weeks from the finishing line.

Argh! This is really affecting my mental health. It’s been almost a year since we first had our offer.

Would you be worried if people at the bottom of the chain were suddenly requesting surveys, weeks before we are hoping to exchange and months after they started the process? I’m worried this is going to start a game of negotiating and potentially a chain collapse again.

Im not sure how much more of this I can take. It’s been an awful processes and I’ve lost all faith in this ever happening.

Yes, I’d be concerned as it sounds like delaying tactics. I had one of those - changed mortgage companies, changed solicitor, last minute survey etc and of course they pulled out at last minute with no viable reason. I am on my third buyer so have every sympathy. It’s astonishing how people behave during the house buying process - they seem to lose all sense of decency and honesty.

@Yetanotherthrowaway I’m so sorry you’ve had similar. It’s not only costly emotionally, we had to pay another £350 for second mortgage valuations due to the delays.

im so annoyed that there’s no regulations to stop this happening. They should be forced to book in a survey within 2 weeks of offer or go without.

Im so stressed. We hear different things from the estate agents every week and im just done with it all. We have a very sellable, popular house but can’t bloody move due to time wasters! Both were in seemingly great positions yet seem like messers further down the line.

Exactly same - house in allegedly popular spot, buyers were professionals in high paying roles in industries that require a modicum of integrity, yet here we are. Mine have pulled out so late, too; no insurmountable survey issues etc. Conveyancing seems to be way more complicated and I do think the time has come for an overhaul of an outdated process that simply doesn't work -munless of course you're earning fees from all the abortive sales.. Wishing you luck and a speedy seamless sale to the next buyer!

Hmm I don't like the sound of this. I'd be tempted to tell them that unless they get a survey, proof of funds etc by a certain date you will put it back on the market.
