Water Stain

Does anyone know what this stain is on our ceiling?
We live in a new build house which is nearly 3 years old.

Our house does not have a lot of windows as we live in a middle terraced house.

We only noticed this stain tonight.

Is this a roof leakage, condensation or a pipe?

Looks like a leaking pipe to me.

What room is above that?

LIZS · 27/12/2024 22:58

Ceiling up or downstairs? What is above? Water will trickle along to the lowest/weakest point so it could be following a joint in the ceiling boards. A dripping pipe is a possibility.

Looks like a pipe, with that long shape. Get a plumber over tomorrow.

If you can get up there safely (I mean if it’s a loft, I don’t mean on the roof) do so and put some towels and old sheets/clothes down to stem the flow.

We had a stain similar on our bedroom ceiling, turned out one of the radiator pipes was leaking

I left the tap running once and it overflowed, the water mark in the room below looked exactly like this. The water runs through the boards which is why it’s a long shape. No issue to fix at all, just wait until dry and paint that patch with white paint.

The mark your showing is barely any water at all and it always looks worse than it is.

The real issue is where it came from and if there is still a leak. The water is not much so it maybe a very small drip coming from a pipe every so often.

This is on the ceiling upstairs in our bedroom.
The attic is obviously above this.

So it could be coming form a cold water header tank. Best get up there with a torch and feel around. A joint may have worked loose.

I thought water tank in loft , but as it's only 3 years it's probably not got one. So it could be a roof leak. Can you go up there see where is coming from and go outside to see if you can see and slipped tiles?
