Worried about new velux

We have had our single storey extension vaulted and put in velux windows. Our builder told us they are very safe and when I looked them up it said burglar safe etc. However we can’t work out how to lock them? I can from a first floor window push them open from the outside, is that normal?! I thought they would be locked when they were closed? Or do we need to buy the extra lock for this? I have spent a long time looking on google and watching videos which all say lock it by closing it. I am not sure if we are not doing something incorrect or that is just how they are!

Are you pulling the window closed and pushing the handle over to the right as far as it goes?

RainbowSlidders · 12/12/2024 20:19

You need to push the handle up twice, you will hear two clicks then the window is locked.

One click should lock the window in venting position, the second click locks it completely air tight. If you can push it open from outside then it sounds faulty.

Thank you will go and try! The problem is they are high up so I have a pole to open and close them. We needed to get the stepladder out to close the vents as we couldn’t do it with the pole!

Look up a video online. You should be able to use the pole to lock too. If you can open and close the vent it's only one more further click to lock

We have to do ours with a pole but they just click once to close then again to lock, you have to be fairly forceful

I just tried again and even when fully closed the window can still be pushed open! If I open the vent completely it gets stuck on open and I have to push the metal bits either side to the bottom to close it?!

I just worked it out! We had moved the lock inside to lock when it was open so it wouldn’t close. Thank you everyone! I can stop worrying now that someone is going to break in!!
