What property features would you never have again?

What features from your current or previous property would you avoid if you were househunting again?

For me, it is three storeys. I had this in my last house and did not expect to dislike it as much as I did. My bedroom was on the top floor and I hated all the stairs especially with young kids. Three storeys usually means the downstairs space is small for the number of bedrooms.

I love my little terraced cottage! My previous house was a five bed detached house and heating was impossible. The wind could get at us from every angle (only house on the top of a hill) and it was always so COLD! My washing hung on the line used to dry in seconds though.

And I have to admit that terraced living (much MUCH warmer, even if I don't put the heating on) is very neighbour-dependant. I have wonderful neighbours and the (early Victorian) walls are two feet thick, which helps both noise and heat retention. But never say never to a terrace!

This is one thing we will miss when we move. Trading a 4-bed terraced for a detached and our terraced house is always warm and toasty. Expecting our heating bills to rocket so will no doubt get more conscious about only heating the rooms we are actively using.

Has anybody got one of those contraptions which you hang pans on? Would this work in my fitted kitchen? Where do they go?
There was one of them in the first house i bought.
I hated it. It just looked like clutter and messy.

We have these and looking to get rid too.
A shame as previous owner spent good money on good quality ones.

I have got this and love it.

A Grade II listing 😊

Wood burners increase your cancer risk so it's a "no" from me. And I've got one, I just don't use it.

Thank you, just so sick of bending down, and dragging pans out of a cupboard. A new kitchen with convenient pull out draws won't be on the agenda for a couple of years unfortunately. I do a lot of cooking, so trying to make things a bit easier in the meantime.

Maisons du Monde does some amazing free standing kitchens. You just buy cabinets lay then next to each other and they're are really beautiful. Sadly they don't sell to UK anymore but I know people buy furniture from their European shops and ship them over.

I had a look but apart from the fact that you could re arrange them,I don't see much difference between their units and fitted.

Doors that you have to turn up to lock.
i know it's more secure, but such a faff.

Would rather have two seperate locks that lock normally.

I know the post says things you'll avoid when househunting, but these are things I'd like to have after the lack of drove me bonkers:
Boot room.
Utility room.

not a pokey one either as that can be just as frustrating.

En-suite - especially if you live with a Man. I know some of you are probably married to angels who never poo in the en suite and leave door open after if a myriad of other things.
The very thought of an ensuite now, gives me the ick.
My teenage daughter now has the en-suite which is a joy as a) she cleans it willingly and properly b) her make up and fake tan lives in there & her laundry basket.

I would never ever have one again.
