Small bedroom - will we need to move it can good design make it work?

My sons bedroom is 2.8x2.6m and has stair boxing in the corner. We are debating staying and doing more work (already done loads), or moving.

So I'm asking

  1. would you make this bedroom size work for a decade plus, or would you consider it a reason to move?
  2. for design ideas that if we stay, would make the room work from age 7 now until adulthood. If we did pay out to get something built over the boxing we want to make sure it has longevity eg cabin bed is cute now but not at 15. Awkwardly he's into big things like Lego and learning to play the drums and I guess that could turn into gaming and needing space for homework.

My brother only ever had a tiny room and me and my sister shared. But then we all moved out at 17/18 and I don't know if that's necessarily the way of things now.

Can custom build a raised bed on top of the small square and use the space underneath for storage?

if everything else works for you in the house, I wouldn’t move just for that.

That's bigger than my daughter's room. We had a cabin bed with lots of underbed storage up to about age 12 and then we swapped (at her request) to a single bed with lots of shelving above.

But (and this is a fairly big but) we were able to give her a desk in a quiet work space in another place in the house. IMO they do need a desk and somewhere to work that's not in the family living area once they get to secondary school age.

How high is the stair alcove?

What is the space between the stairs box and the window?
Think thats the longer wall, so I'd be tempted to go with the design in DH's box room when I met him.
Built in storage over the stair box (shelves & drawers, or a deep wardrobe), and that then gives you flexibility with the bed, if, as I think, you will have 2.2m left.
If it's the shorter wall, I think you need to go with the single bed built over the box.

The boxing? 70cm - mid thigh height.

I don’t think it’s that small.

We've got an open plan kitchen diner with sofa space, or the living room. I currently have my desk in the living room. DH works from a fold up table in the bedroom. Workspace is a bit maxed out. But we can look to work from offices more as the kids get old enough to be home alone.

It’s probably worth paying for custom made furniture once you’ve decided on what you want. That would still be a lot cheaper than moving.

It's about the size of my DD's room, she is 9 now. She has a high sleeper with space for storage and playing underneath. DH built her a drop leaf desk too.
We are thinking of moving in the next couple of years but if we couldn't I think her room would work when she's older too, it's big enough for a normal single bed and teens need less space for toys!

get a joiner to make a unit across the stair box right to under window, the bed base needs slats so mattress can breathe a standard ingle mattress is 0cm wide so that would fit great underneath get him to build in drawers and a cupboard, you can get hanging rails that pull out for like school shirts and jackets but most clothes can be folded into drawers
on the opposite side by window get a small folddown table can be folded down when younger for play space when older can be a desk , place for computer /TV get a few shelves above for books displaying lego etc, next to that get a kallax 4x2 unit and can be used for toy storage and clothes out of season items can go in a box on top
it might cost a bit to get a joiner to custom build it but it will be thousands cheaper than moving house , look at caravans, tiny homes, van life etc on you tube for ideas on how to get storage here there and everywhere
