Whats North Wingfield, Chesterfield like?

Hi,

I've been looking to move house for a while now but struggling with locations. I've kept an eye on Chesterfield as my requirements are mainly decent walks and a town but a suitable property hasn't popped up yet.

I wanted to ask about North Wingfield, I do not no the area but will visit this weekend but its hard to get a feel for a place in a day, plus also the surrounding areas. Could anyone answer a few questions for me which might help:

Firstly - what's people's view points in the area? My budget is fairly low so I do have to take a bit of a hit on locations but trying to find a 'safe-ish' option with a low budget.

I really find a morning walk before work (about 1.5hrs) helpful. I can see there is the 5 pits trail but not sure if there is much else in terms of walks that didn't require a drive? I can see it opens out into countryside, is this walkable or private land, if that makes sense? Ive tried looking on the map, but difficult to tell. I do drive but don't always have the car in the week and nice to know there are walks available that aren't a drive away.

Also, in regards to the peak district - I know its gets busy and would avoid weekends / Bank Holidays due to that but say I took a day off in the week in the summer holidays, is is overridden with people or manageable. For context I live near the Yorkshire Moors - would avoid at summer weekends but easy to escape the crowds on a summer week day if keep away from the 'well known tourist attractions'.

Thanks for any input / help on the area.

Also schools aren't an issue and I work from home.

Like many places it’s a bit of a mixed bag! Certain streets I wouldn’t want to live on.

The five pits trail is great and there are a multitude of other paths and a lot of walking groups.

The Peak District has plenty of quieter spots, even at weekends.

If you give me more of an idea what a low budget is I can make suggestions. Feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Definitely a mixed bag and far too close to Clay Cross for my liking.

Good access for peak district and walks etc, and far preferable to Derby City, but wouldn't be my first choice.

That's helpful insight, thank you.

Belper is a nicer town than Chesterfield IMO and still close to the Peak District. Belper itself might be out of budget but there are some cheaper places on the outskirts possibly e.g Kilburn, Denby.
The ex pit towns tend to be a bit on the rough side - chesterfield, Ilkeston, Ripley, Heanor, Mansfield included.

Look at SW Sheffield, 15 minutes drive from both the Peak District & the M1, Graves Park, Millhouses Park, Ecclesall Woods for walks, lots of places to eat & drink, independent craft beer & wine pubs, all major supermarkets, good transport links, good schools if you have kids, properties of all prices, things like the antiques quarter if you like that kind of thing, 15 minutes from the City Centre & Meadowhall. Or Dronfield, which is just over the border in NE Derbyshire between Sheffield & Chesterfield.
