Boiler needed

HelpWanted1234 · 10/12/2024 17:21

Hi

I'm looking for combi boiler recommendations. My trusty Vaillant has packed up after 13 years. I seem to be pushed towards an Ideal and top end is a Worcester.

I cant afford the best but I don't want a budget rubbish one either.

Can anyone recommend?

Try BOXT and you will get a fixed price quote on their website

HelpWanted1234 · 10/12/2024 18:56

BOXT are actually cheaper that I've been quoted, by 500 which has shocked me

Did you look at the Valiant fixed repair scheme ?

I think it looks OK value, £99 for the diagnostic if they can't repair it and £400 for the repair if they can (AFAIUI).

What is actually wrong with your boiler and who diagnosed it ? Some engineers will tell you it needs to be scrapped because they want the replacement work.

13 years is getting into middle age for a boiler, but maybe it has some life in it yet, especially for a higher quality brand.

I had an Ideal Standard boiler as my last one. It was rubbish. I hear they have improved quality since then. But the Valiant I have in now there is no comparison.

As I understand it Worcester Bosch and Valliant are the ones to go for, also they make their parts for a good number of years. Does your engineer know what's wrong with your boiler (as you should still be able to get parts)?

Ideal maybe better now, but out old Ideal boiler broke down ten times in ten years. Engineer couldn't fix it the final time, so I phoned up Ideal for a premium rate call out and was told they'd stop doing them on that model as they stopped making parts a couple of years before.

I'm getting Fault codes F62 and F27. It's to do with the gas pump and PCB, which a look on the Internet suggests these are costly fixes and it's recommended to consider upgrading to a newer boiler.

Obviously I'd prefer not to but I also don't want to be paying lots to a boiler that may have limited life if it can be fixed

Have you had your heating engineer look at it? Might be something inside requires adjustment. Has it been serviced recently?

HelpWanted1234 · 11/12/2024 20:34

It was due a service in January. I've only had people out to quote, they didn't even suggest fixing it
