Infrared heating panels- any good?

At some point my trusty gas boiler will have to be replaced. I don’t have room for a ground or air pump- I really don’t so please don’t suggest these- and I’m drawn to the idea of infra red heating panels. I like the idea of clean and silent heating but I’ve heard contradictory reports. A builder I know asked around for me and said he’d only heard negative comments but someone I know who works in a place that is heated by these says they’re good. I know they’re expensive to install and run but I’m not keen on continuing with gas heating.

I’d be v grateful for others’ experiences

The problem is on all of these sorts of threads you're going to get a mix of people, some of whom may be involved in the installation/promotion of this type of heating. So getting a balanced opinion is hard work.

Electric heating is about 3.5x the cost of gas. I would think carefully about whether you want to lose your gas boiler - it surely should be possible to replace it relatively cheaply if your system is currently adequate and you go like for like.

I bought a stand alone infra red panel a few years ago, to supplement gas central heating in a cold room. The panel is ok - it doesn't heat the room like a hot radiator, but takes the edge off. I don't know if the panels have become more efficient since. I like the idea that I can just heat one room and not have to put the whole central heating system on.
I suggest you buy a single panel to try it out before committing to a full system. (BTW I do not have any interest in the promotion or installation of them).
Whether infra red will be enough for your house will depend on your room sizes and insulation etc.

I have one in my bathroom and love it.
Its like it heats me up rather than pointless things in the room.
Mine is a mirror aswell so it looks like there no heating in there.

I’m in our garage conversion right now where we have one. It’s lovely and toasty and I’m not having to heat the rest of the house like I would if I had the central heating on.

it heats up really quickly too, only put it in a couple of minutes ago.
