Help with my home

Hi,
I am looking for some help with my home, mainly my living room. I moved into my home with my young daughter a year ago, long story short but change of circumstances meant this was the only home we could accept. Whilst I should feel grateful, and I am, the living room really bothers me. It has a bizarre shape and 2 doors, no matter how I arrange the furniture I can’t seem to get it to feel right. I don’t have a lot of spare money so I’m wondering if anyone has any ideas on layout/how I can improve the feel of it. Currently my sofa sits in the alcove which I don’t really like. However if I move it to the bay window that somehow doesn’t feel right either? 😩

Yes I think it’s too big, it dominates. Maybe something in between that and the one you had before?

Can anyone say whether I should paint the fireplace wall back to the same light grey in the meantime until I decide what colour I want to redecorate at some point? Or is it okay with the 2 toned

I think the room needs some warmer colours and some texture. It feels a little cold at the moment and I think that's what makes the furniture feel wrong. Warmer colours and a cosy feel would help so much.

Personally I wouldn’t double down on the grey, I think it’s part of the problem, but then I’ve always been anti grey.

What about Roman blinds for the windows?

You can choose a warm colour and it would be asier than trying to fit a curtain track round the bay window which is diffi

Yeah Roman blinds could work, I did have them before but they were brown from the previous owner so I got rid of them. Could anyone recommend a colour scheme for this room as my experience of choosing paint is not great. Also to clarify should I just have it all one colour? Rather than 2 toned? I’m not great at this!

I think multiple tones of the same colour always looks better than everything the same tone - it gives depth and texture to the room.
So I think great to have a handful of greys but you do definitely need some colours too. You could choose green and pink to put with the grey - and again if you layer tones of those colours everything will look cosier and less flat.
In terms of the rug, I don’t think smaller ever looks better. I would focus on getting colour and pattern in through cushions, throws, lamps and curtains /blinds - and you might find the rug stops being a problem. Ageee with a PP that putting your sofa on the rug will help.
