Odd shaped room- inspiration needed!

My daughter has bought her first home and is struggling with the layout in the main bedroom, anyone have any ideas? I am going to attempt a diagram but this is the general problem…

in order to fit her bed and bedside tables, there is only one place the bed can go and that is with the headboard against an old chimney breast-all good so far. The problem is that due to the way the house was built, one side of the chimney breast has around 60cm to the wall, the other is around a metre or so - the result is that it doesn’t look balanced and this is really frustrating her. The only options we can think of is building a false wall to balance it (costly, time consuming and she will need to find someone reliable to do it) or disguise it somehow? Super tall headboard anyone?

Would a tall slim bookcase sideways on work? Painted the same colour as the wsll

Or would the bed fit under the window?

Some kind of canopy? It needn't be this elaborate. Grin

Stick a nice big plant or a standard lamp of some sort in the space.

would she be able to get someone to fit a panel over the chimney breast (flat) that makes it symmetrical. The shorter side she could have some shelves and the other side a hanger so it’s sort of like a hidden wardrobe. From the front all you will see is the panel. Would obviously only work if you had space to get into the storage either side (not sure of the dimensions of the room)

Is it not easier to use different furniture? A good joiner could design something in the gaps to make it flush and usable

I’m really liking the idea of a panel- that seems to be do-able for her and she could us the hidden space on the long side for shelves or something. Thank you for all of the ideas, we will sit down later and work something out!

Ask the Feng shut dude see what he suggests he is actually very good with odd spaces. ( his handle is dear modern)

Soontobe60 · 02/12/2024 21:12

What’s the actual room measurements?

Soontobe60 · 02/12/2024 21:17

On the attached diagram, the red is a floor to ceiling bookcase (Billy from IKEA might fit) behind the bed accessed from the side so the side of the bookcase plus the chimney breast are behind the headboard?
You could also hang the door to open the other way.

Update- she has had a stud wall built to make it an even space on both sides and bring symmetry to it and it does look better
