Hello, I've read with interest the a post about a management company that management a development and the critism received from Leaseholders. The company was set up our company in 2006 and 15 of the leaseholders purchased the freehold. There are 3 directors.
In the main we have a good relationship with our residents however, there is a particular resident we cannot seem to keep happy. Her current challenge is about some land over our boundary of the development, a river bank. We do employ a contractor to trim the area of weeds but she wants more and says we are riparian owners. She has gone to the trouble of comparing other developments to ours, but I doubt she has any clue of their management fees. And, they are very different.
She wants an unrestricted view, all weeds cleared, sampling trees cut down, and more light. She recently asked if she could rally support from others to pay for a proper job. We don't have an issue with this but did say shed need to speak to ALL residents as some residents enjoy the privacy. We provided the daily charges quoted. We cannot justify the costs for an area of land beyond our boundary, nearly £500per day, 2 days quoted! So we keep our maintenance basic of that area she is complaining about. Now as we will not justify the costs and they obviously didn't expect the costs either! we have now come under fire for controlling their lives, and that the directors are faceless. We are owners of 4 apartments 1 is an occupier and 1 has been in the past, he now has a family.
She constantly refers to 'we' or 'other residents' however, we receive no communication from them about the issues she has issue with.
We keep our annual costs as low as we can. We use local contractors and have a good relationship with them.
I'm not sure what advise you can provide, I merely found comfort that we are not the only volunteer directors getting some stick! and if it wasn't that we had a vested interest in the development, I believe we would all step down and hand it to a local agent to deal with.
Thanks Zilly
