I can't find my thermostat

Any suggestions of hidden places for thermostats? It's a 2 bed terrace, hardly a mansion. I've been here over 2 years but didn't really need to use the heating 'properly'.. just flicked it on and off when I wanted. Now I've got a baby to keep warm/not overheat and I can't find a thermostat anywhere to set a temperature!

Look for it instead of being on Mumsnet when you have a young baby to keep warm.

It can be anywhere

Usually downstairs

Get off Mumsnet rather than sounding like a mardy twat.

Ours didn't have one when we moved it, it did have the receiver but not the sender, old owner had lost it,we got a sparky in and got a new one fitted.

We loved without one for years, just switched it on when needed.

I am another one who doesn't have a thermostat.

Every single radiator, including the bathroom towel rail, has a thermostatic radiator valve.

This means when the boiler is on, which either using the timer or me just switching it on/off, I can manually control the temperature in each room.

A plumber offered to put one in but it would have been in a place where there are no radiators just hot water pipes, so it would be pointless.

We also didn't have one when we moved in - and availed ourselves of the black Friday deals for one + TRVs so you're well timed at the moment. We went with Hive who have a installation service you pay extra for - you can book online (but you can also order from Hive/Nest/one of the others, have it delivered to your house and have your usual boiler person fit it).

As OP has been there two years, I'm sure they've already looked and were posting on here for useful comments.

As others have said, it could be you don't have one. In our previous house the system was installed in 1999 and that didn't. However, that system did have a programme built in. You could speak to your heating engineer and ask whether a thermostat would be ok with your system. If not, continue to put the heating on and off as you have been. If your concerned DB might be cold in the night, you could buy a thermostatically controlled electric heater and have that come on for an hour or two

I have a wireless thermostat which was never fixed to the wall by the previous owner so it could be anywhere - cupboard, shelf etc.

Papricat · 22/11/2024 16:20

Buy a new one for GBP 80 off amazon and plug it to your boiler. Job done.

LIZS · 22/11/2024 16:36

There may not be a wall thermostat, especially if you have radiator controls.

BackinBlack24 · 22/11/2024 16:38

Why do you assume you have one ? If you can flick heating in and off then I would bet you don't have a thermostat just need to turn heading in when you need it , is there a timer for the heating that's as good as you will get

Anyone can flick the heating on and off at the boiler, whether or not they have a thermostat.

Thank you so much for all of the helpful replies. Shame about the unhelpful one. Of course I've looked around the entire house. And my baby is obviously not lay there freezing because I've given up even turning the heating on .. it's on timer but thought a thermostat would work better at keeping it at an even temperature.

I had no idea you couldn't have one. Google wasn't very useful when I questioned this. Thank you everyone. I'll look into all of your advice.

By the way OP I rang up the boiler makers - Worcester in my case - when I thought my thermostat was on the blink and they advised me that I could buy one at a wickes or other building supply place. They asked for the boiler registered number and advised me of the model (including the serial number) to buy. That might work for you.

Ours is wireless and sits on a small coffee table. It can be hung on a wall (like a picture) but is not wired in
