hi all, last week i was called to ask if i was still interested in a flat i bid on, i said yes and filled in an affordability check. my smp runs out soon so im kind of nervous to be honest as my husband is still a student (graduates in may) but we are currently living in his dads house with our baby.

my question is, what comes next? they’re calling me on wednesday but im so anxious, i just want to know what’s going on. will we be offered a viewing next? can anyone tell me about the process?

we will be entitled to UC once my smp runs out but it’s all just anxiety inducing for me to be honest

edit: it’s housing association if that helps

When your smp runs out are you planning to go back to work? Is your partner doing a part time job around his studies? Housing association properties are more expensive than council owned properties so being able to meet the rental payments will be key. I suspect they will call to assess your forward plan - so I'd get that straight first and foremost. If you meet the criteria at that point you'll likely be offered a viewing, after which point if you are happy and the HA is clear on how you can afford to live there an offer will be made.

Where are you on the list? I have done it both ways round. The process can be slow though, good luck.

our council doesn’t own any of the properties anymore so they’re all HA, but this one is cheaper than most £600 a month, i think that’s the lowest i’ve seen. i’m not returning to work as my baby is only 8 months old, i am taking the full year but the last 3 months are unpaid (until march)

he has just got a part time job and i think we meet the requirements (they’re looking for a monthly income of 1.7k) but im just nervous about uc to be honest. thank you for your replies, also we are 1 in the queue they only offer it to 1 person at a time anyway i think

But you could tell them that you do intend to return to work at the end of the year @ttcrainbowbaby1 (even if you’re undecided at the moment).
