Bought Homebase kitchen now they’re in liquidation

Hello Mumsnetters,
I bought a kitchen in august interest free credit from Homebase. Wasn’t planning on getting it delivered until after Xmas. One of the tradesmen I rang to get a quote to install said kitchen just told me they’re in liquidation?!?

what to do? Obviously they won’t be able to honour the guarantee (15 or 25 year) which was one reason for choosing them!?

any suggestions? Bought appliances too as part of the package now not sure if that would still be honoured?

Oh, that’s so frustrating! Sympathies. My only experience with a store liquidation and receiving goods I’d already paid for is that I never received the goods nor did I receive a refund. It was infuriating! That said, it was a sports store, and my total loss was only £79. Have you tried contacting Homebase directly?

Administration, not liquidation. The Range has bought a large portion of the business. I’d speak to wherever you bought it from to find out what’s going on.

LostittoBostik · 16/11/2024 08:24

Have you paid anything down on the credit or not? If not I'd withdraw from the agreement

If you don't already have the goods then I'd cancel if you can.

This happened to me years ago with MFI. I'd ordered a new kitchen and then the news hit they were in big trouble.
I was lucky I'd paid on credit card so would be covered, and it happened just before kitchen was due to be delivered.

I got the units delivered (and they've been fine for years so I never needed the guarantee) but I didn't get any appliances. I assume the companies like hotpoint, Miele etc would no longer supply them in case they didn't get paid. I went into the store and spoke to the manager the week the kitchen was being installed and I still had no appliances and he suggested he refunded me and I went elsewhere to buy them. It worked out fine but was very stressful .
The stores all shut a week later!

So, yes, I'm in the same situation. The interest free credit is your protection here. I presume it was done in store and with novuna? They're covered by section 75. There is a really helpful article on money saving expert explaining this.

If you contract customer services homebase will tell you delivery is going ahead. But AO (who supplies their appliances) and their various other suppliers and delivery people are saying no deliveries. Homebase appears to be working to try and address this and reach an agreement with their suppliers, who knows if it will work. The current advice is essentially sit right and wait for communication. Homebase say if they can't fulfill the orders they will cancel them.

Meant to add, they won't let you cancel the order. You can ask the administrators to cancel, this is on a case by case bases and you have to contact them via e mail. Link to article below.

You must be worried, Try trusting. The closest person in your life instead of random people who you don't actually know. Someone who has contributed to your progress financially. They also will have a unique point of view, it's possible a problem shared is a problem halved, have you already tried this ?..

Speak to citizens advice.
Think about what units you can receive now
There's always a unique way to win.

Thanks everyone for your help. I amvditting tight for now. The store Whete i ordered the kitchen from is one of the ones that will be closed so the warrantee won’t be able to be honoured and even if ´The Range ´ take over or are assigned the contract I would/may have to agree (don’t recall if they can assign the contract to another party). And the appliances well I remain uncertain if I will ever see them. I think what helps is that I said to them I wanted delivery after February nor before as renovations are underway. Thanks everyone !!!
