Has anyone had an electrician round to add extra plug sockets into the walls. What was the cost? Cheers, CA

No, electricity is the same everywhere

It's a straight forward job, but how much it will cost you depends on where you live and the local labour market.

goingtotown · 16/11/2024 00:44

South East £90 an hour plus parts.

Twiglets1 · 16/11/2024 05:24

We got a few new sockets installed at the same time and it cost a few hundred in the south east. Best thing is to get a couple of electricians to quote.

NonmagicMike · 16/11/2024 06:40

Depends on the complexity of the job. You’re looking at about £75 - £120 per hour depending on where you are. If you are having white trunking put onto the wall with the cable running in that then it’ll take maybe two hours for a couple of sockets. If you need the wires chasing into the wall or floorboards lifting etc then how long is a piece of string. Best to get a fixed price quote for the job.

😂 yes but the cost of trades people really varies from region to region!!

We just paid £300 for this as one room had no plugs at all (old house) and we wanted extras in two rooms, there was lots of lifting carpets and chiselling into plaster

SpidersAreShitheads · 16/11/2024 06:54

Exactly as PP said - depends on the going rate for trades in your region and it depends on what needs to be done to add a socket. Is there power nearby? Do you want buried cables or trunking? Will the room need rewiring at the same time?

What you need depends on the above.

For a basic socket that can be run off power nearby, our sparky charges £75 plus parts. However more extensive work and he does a quote based on his estimated time.

I’m in the SW, so in the SE it might cost more.

Sorry OP but that really made me laugh out loud. As PP have pointed out trades people charge different rates in different areas of the country. Just as house prices vary depending on the location so do the costs for work on properties, extensions, repairs, etc.

Clueless.

Thanks to all those who answered with approximate prices according to the work done.

No thanks to those who unhelpfully replied 'depends where you are as the cost of tradespeople varies on location'. I'm not singing in from Greenland ffs.
