Drill recommendations for newbie

At the ripe old age of 50, I have left my partner and am settling into my new home.

I need shelves, curtain poles, coat hooks etc put up. I've never used a drill before! What do I need?

For light work such as you mentioned I would look for a basic rechargeable one with some masonry bits.

Such as this which can also be used as a screwdriver.

The battery can also be used with other Bosch items.

If you think you might want to buy other power tools, then it might be worth investigating what other tools work with this battery.

Most manufactures (Robi, Worx, Bosch, Ryobi, Black and Decker etc) have there own "battery system" which is great provided the tool you want is in their range. You can also usally buy tools "bare" which means they come without battery or charge, so you use the one(s) you have.

I happen to use two systems, Bosch 12Volt for tools, and the Worxs 20V for garden tools

Besides the drill, at some point it may be useful to get a separate set of screwdrivers, some long and some shorter, an adjustable spanner and a couple of sets of pliers, normal and long nosed. Some raw plugs, a few screws of different sizes and a few nails and a hammer oh and perhaps a torch that will stand upright without falling over and bends in different directions. You might find yourself doing lots of other DIY jobs too. Have a look on You Tube for useful how to videos.

I have to use drills at work. I always prefer to use the lighter ones!
