Weird positioned light fittings (with diagram!)

The lights in my dining room are in a weird place- there are currently two ceiling lights off centre. I'm putting a three pendant ceiling light above the dining table which is fine, but I dont know what to do with the other one!

What will go in that space that won't look weird near to the three pendant light thats over the dining table? Diagram attached to hopefully make it clearer (yellow bits are the lights)😂

You haven’t said how big the room is but it looks quite large. It actually looks like quite a sensible arrangement to light the whole room.

can you get a smaller version of the same light fitting? Or just put a recessed spot if you want to keep it inconspicuous. If possible, get two separate switches, one for each light.

ARe you just lighting an empty space with an additional overhead light? Can you get rid of the orphan overhead light and have wall lights - either side of the fireplace, maybe, along that empty wall opposite the fireplace? Are you putting a sideboard/storage on that side that you could sit a lamp on? Or more wall lights washing down over artwork you plan to put there? How big is the space between the fireplace and the window? Can you tuck an accent chair in there with a tiny side-table and have a reading/spying out the window corner? In which case a light on that side of the fireplace would be handy, and would sort of zone the room a bit.

It's a pain chasing out walls for new electrical installations, but as someone who lives in a chronically underlit period house, every new bit of sensible and strategic lighting is worth its weight in gold! So I would invest while you're decorating (if that's the stage you're at, in fact - you didn't say).

I was going to say two wall lights, either side of the fireplace too.
It does depend how you are going to use the rest of the room though.
It looks like a big room, will you have sofas there? If so how relaxed will you want your lighting to be, there so many lovely table lamps and standard lamps that might be enough with wall lights as well.

I should have said its not to scale 😂 it's not as big as I've implied there. The two light fittings are actually quite close to one another in reality. The alcoves either side of the fireplace are small and one is behind the door, so not massively suitable for wall lights.

I am going to get a floor lamp and some reading lamps (there is indeed an armchair going in the nook by the window, and a sideboard on the wall opposite along from the table) but it still needs the rogue light I think- it's quite a dark room as its in the middle of the house and only has the sun on the window side for a few hours in the afternoon, which is then promptly shadowed by the kitchen extension after that.

We have already redecorated, stupidly, so I am loathed to rewire, but I can't see what light fitting won't look weird so close to the three pendant one over the table! I've been looking at flush to ceiling ones but I just don't know if they'll look odd.

I really like the view from the kitchen (which is the door off the bottom right of the diagram) of the dining table, and the view of the three pendant lamp over this. I don't want anything that will disturb that view.

Well, maybe just suck it and see with a super-slim flush to ceiling one (on a dimmer, maybe?) that won't interrupt your view of the table and pendant lights? Could you get a style that matched/complemented the pendant lights? I really struggle with overhead lights, so would always go for task/more localised and decorative lighting (I'm also very short-sighted, so am used to a world in close).

But if this is a dining room, how much daylight time are you spending in there? Does it need to be a well-lit room from above or do you merely need not to be walking in the dark from kitchen to diining area with hot trays? Are you planning on adding shelves for books/ornaments/pictures? Could you add rechargeable lamps to those shelves so that you can add light to the room without drawing attention to the rogue light source?

Can you post a pic of the 3 pendant one? That might make it easier to digest something that will coordinate.

Try Pooky https://www.pooky.com/collections/rechargeable-lighting?srsltid=AfmBOorY2eROWaqfM6hgSLvP0STT_vpG6mRTYsAUzGeKMS6Vc-wLzeBm

For wireless light fittings so no chasing out required

All fab suggestions thank you- I think I'll try and find the least offensive flush one and fill up on non ceiling lighting. Mumsnet is so helpful!
