Worried-sale

Accepted offer on house a month ago. Found onward last week. No more chain in either direction.

Our buyer seemed very excited but now is coming apparently to measure.

I think they have a solicitor but no survey or anything and now I’m worried they are planning to pull out.

I know no one has a crystal ball but is this normal?

Why do you think the fact they’re coming to measure means they’re planning to pull out? That’s a good sign!

WhereIsMyLight · 08/11/2024 13:36

It could be they want to check their furniture will fit. It could be measuring up to know how much flowering is going to cost them. It’s normal to measure things up, although usually a little later in the sale.

It’s normal to want to view the house you’re buying more than once.

And it’s normal not paying for a survey immediately when you hadn’t even found an onward property until recently.

Thanks. Multiple bad experiences over the last few years. I’ll tidy up and keep my fingers crossed!

I'm another one who thinks it's a good sign.

Husband now says the buyers doing drive bys, I hope they are just excited 😬

Hopefully is excitement but I would prefer my buyers checked everything now such as the neighbourhood at the beginning rather than wait till just before exchange and do checks and then pull out.

They're spending hundreds of thousands of pounds, so it's pretty normal to want to check out the house and street a few times.

I didn't get a survey for a house I offered on as I was waiting them to find their next purchase. They didn't find anything so after 3/4 months we pulled out as we could not wait indefinitely and offered on another property. I am glad we didn't pay for a survey and would not until it is clear that the chain is complete. It didn't mean we weren't completely committed and we would not have pulled out had it felt like the vendor was going to move.

Oh God, we drove by dozens of times as we were very excited (and also very local). I always worried we'd look like weirdos driving by slowly and convinced myself nobody really had noticed but maybe people did. I'm cringing a bit now! 😬

We always do drive bys if possible (we couldn't this time) at various times of day. We saw our former NDNs doing it before they bought last year (we just moved out a few months ago). When I saw them stopped down the road at 8pm on a Saturday I knew we'd get on haha. It's very normal to double check what you're buying. I'm surprised anyone doesn't with the amount of money involved and also the fact you still have to live there if you make a mistake.

So far so good…
