Any recommendations on safe and pleasant area to live with easy connection to liverpool and manchester.
Looking for 3 bed house with garden and top budget of £300,000.
Would prefer somewhere that is close to some bars /restaurants ect .

Ness in Cheshire is very nice, which is close to Parkgate, also lovely with lots of restaurants pubs etc, both are about 45 minute drive to Manchester on M56, Liverpool maybe 30 minutes going in the other direction ( providing no traffic jams of course) I’d certainly recommend the area, we moved here 9 months ago and it feels very safe.

Winky2024 · 07/11/2024 10:35

The Wirral would be ideal for you. Heswall, West Kirby, Hoylake, Caldy are the “posh” areas.

Wallasey (particularly New Brighton) is nearest to Liverpool and has easy access to the coast. Very safe with affordable housing stock. It’s easy living whilst having the convenience of Liverpool (fantastic city) on your doorstep.

Winky2024 · 07/11/2024 10:44

Just noticed your preference for bars restaurants etc. In that case head to south Liverpool. You want the Lark Lane area by Sefton Park or Penny Lane area in Allerton.

Both good, safe locations and very vibrant. Not the cheapest so property will be slightly more expensive but worth it.

Mossley Hill and Aigburth are also worth a look.

MiddleAgedDread · 07/11/2024 10:50

By "easy connection" do you mean for work (because travelling at rush hour is very different to visiting family at weekends) and driving or public transport?

Jins · 07/11/2024 10:58

Hoole in Chester is worth a look and you’d get a 3 bed semi with garden in your price range. Local shopping and bars in the immediate area, easy walk to Chester station for frequent direct trains to Liverpool and less frequently to Manchester. Direct trains to Manchester Airport. A couple of bus routes go through Hoole and stop at the bus interchange.

Local roads can be busy but it’s a short drive to the M53 and slightly further to the M56.

With your budget, I’d look at Higher Bebington. Ticks all your boxes.

I think safe, pleasant, vibrant and a garden is a big ask for that price. You may have to sacrifice something.
Houses with gardens in nicer areas of south Liverpool for example are 400-500k. Cheaper safe areas are Maghull, Warrington and the Wirral. Hoole is nice but a hike to Manchester. Frodsham ticks many boxes but probably too expensive

Bounty95 · 07/11/2024 12:49

Northwich would be worth a look

This 100 times over. If you need to commute more than a couple of time a week into Manchester at peak times (which is basically all the time apart from 10-3 nowadays) you're better to be on a train or tram as the traffic is basically approaching London levels of silliness. Be wary of any driving times people give on here - I frequently see places described as a 20minute commute when in reality it's 30mins even at midnight and over an hour at peak times.

If you do need to commute I'd look at Swinton, Worsley, Bury, Whitefield, Prestwich. Or Littleborough and Greenfield if you like somewhere more rural but they won't have as much in the way of restaurants and bars.

Catsonskis · 07/11/2024 13:01

Newton le willows, Stockton heath etc is reccomend too. NLW is a 20 min train to both Liverpool and Manchester, and 5 mins from the motorway to either. It also has a nice high street now with various restaurants pubs and bars. Loved loving their in my 20s.

MiddleAgedDread · 07/11/2024 13:33

Stockton Heath was my initial thought too but £300k for 3 beds is stretching it. There's 1 on the market at the moment and it needs a fair bit of work. 3 bedroom semi-detached house for sale in Lilac Grove, Stockton Heath, Warrington WA4
If you could stretch to £300-350 or cross to the less trendy side of the canal then there's a few more options Properties For Sale in Stockton Heath | Rightmove

Thanks all, yes unfortunately will have to commute to either liverpool or manchester as work will be hospital based but have daughters based at both.
Plenty to check up on ,feel like i have a much better idea of where i need tobe searching .Recently camped on wirral near west kirby and was suprised by wild it felt so having access to areas like this is a positive.
Many thanks to all who have taken timeto reply.

Ah hospitals so not city centre Liverpool and Manchester then? Which really means driving. The Wirral would be ok for Liverpool but I wouldn’t fancy commuting to Manchester from there unless you do shifts and travel at off peak times of day.

Pieceofpurplesky · 07/11/2024 18:23

Frodsham and the surrounding areas?

bigbadbarry · 07/11/2024 18:30

Quite tricky to find somewhere that is a nice commute to both. Maybe Frodsham

foreverbasil · 07/11/2024 19:07

Do you have a job yet? I would focus on that and plan accordingly. If you are moving from the south east you may be surprised that there are not as many hospital jobs (depending on specialty). People tend to not move jobs as frequently creating fewer vacancies.
If you are a nurse, you will probably have more options.
Most hospitals tend to be away from city centres making a car pretty essential for shifts.

My friend lives In Cressington. It's lovely.

Agree with this
Top end of wirral by West kirby in particular is a lovely drive to Manchester, at least an hour to 80 mins
You can train it via Liverpool or drive to Helsby for train but might be an issue with shifts

sleepwouldbenice · 08/11/2024 09:38

Long not lovely!
