Has anyone managed this? My 85 year old FIL has bought a bungalow and now 2 weeks into process-survey all done and fine, no mortgage involved, he's only going for LA search , house is in good order and is empty , private all been done and through etc.

Anyone done an exchange and complete in 7 weeks? As he's keen to take possession by mid December - as will be in holiday accommodation following on from his sale for around a month.

DS was in her house in 6 weeks. She had sold her house and we told the vendor that they could have the asking price if they were out in 6 weeks and they were. It is possible.

@Rocknrollstar ah that's promising- he def thinks it's possible

Our last move, contracts exchange Tuesday, complete and move Friday.

Do you mean exchange & complete or offer & complete?
Gaps between E&C vary from many months (been there) to same day (been there as well). From offer to complete is the one that can be as long as a piece of string.

Apologies I meant offer and complete

Yes it is doable - is your FiL selling a place or is it literally this one purchase in the chain?

schloss · 31/10/2024 20:54

Yes I have done it exchanged in 4 weeks. The key is communication with every party involved. We also took all contracts and paperwork back and forth to our solicitors.

Crikeyalmighty · 31/10/2024 21:40

@SheilaFentiman he is selling but due to exchange in next week and his buyers aren't selling anything.

@SheilaFentiman and he's going into holiday accommodation as completion more than likely before his purchase by quite a few weeks

@schloss yes he's dropping stuff in and his solicitor dealing with his sale and his purchase.
