Has anyone had experience of building over a sewage pipe when doing an extension?
We have got permission from the water company to build over a pipe that runs close to the foundation of the back wall, and between the foundations of the side walls.
The builder says we only need to put pea gravel around the pipe where it runs between the side foundations, rather than the entire length of the pipe where it runs below the new floor. Doing the whole pipe would mean digging all around and below it, which of course risks disturbing the pipe and would take longer.
The attached drawing is what was approved but because it's a cross section I'm not sure whether the pea gravel is meant to continue along the whole pipe or only the parts where it crosses between side foundations and exits our garden.
I can ask the water company too but they take ages and don't make things easy! Also our architect isn't responding to my queries at the moment (he's been fairly awkward to work with sadly).
The builder would prefer to leave the current soil over the top but I want to do what's best for the pipe and the flooring to keep it in good shape, as once it's buried we don't want any issues with it! TIA.
