Please help - bathroom ideas

Will attach a picture to this thread. We are buying a property which currently only has a shower in the bathroom. We have two young children so need to add a bath in. Room isn’t massive (2.14 x 1.88) so not sure that we would be able to add a bath in separately. Once we move we will have around £20k left and I really don’t want to have to spend half if not more on the bathroom. Any suggestions welcomed!!!

I think our best bet is what @TheBitterBoy suggested. Keep shower fittings where they are and swap out for a bath/shower. I would want to move the toilet though to where the sink is so seems as if there will be plenty of new plumbing to be done (£££)

It's worth seeing if your builder/fitter has a trade account with somewhere like City Plumbing or Graham Plumbing (I'd recommend them if you have one near). We got around a 40% trade discount from Graham plumbing (we were buying three bathrooms though).

I agree with changing the door to open outwards into the hall. This will save 1m2 of floor space inside and is safer IMO and likely the cheapest option. Changing it to a sliding one could be an option, if you have the space within the wall to do a pocket one, unless you just have a free standing slider type.

We had a smaller bathroom in a flat, and had an L shaped bath/shower combo like this https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/l-shaped-shower-bath-1600mm-inc-hinged-screen-panel?&preSelected=True&pagetype=shopping&includeListing&sku=LH-L16FS&s_kwcid=AL!15853!3!!!!x!!&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsoe5BhDiARIsAOXVoUt3OZ3iDyTEtMDJPlTg_RDpMa6IcBtklWMiEDL2vIcNlg5_DZ3EkUYaAtLGEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

If you'd prefer to keep a separate shower, I'd keep it where it is and where the toilet currently is, add in a small bath like this https://www.betterbathrooms.com/p/freestanding-small-round-corner-bath-1000-x-1000mm-malta-malta1000

Then for the toilet/sink, get a compact one like this: https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/cove-1050mm-vanity-unit-cloakroom-suite-gloss-white-depth-300mm

Its not ideal having the door open with the toilet straight ahead of the door (according to our plumber) but it would cost must more to move it to say where the shower is.

Can I ask why it's not ideal to have toilet in front of door? In our case it was that or having it next to bath

I did say that this was according to our plumber! I also said, that if that is the only option, well that is it!

I can only 'assume/guess' its so if the door is unlocked and someone walks in, their first view isn't someone sat on the toilet? Maybe not having the toilet on full view when opening the door is preferred for house sales- I have no idea?
A google search found this:

  • Direction: Position the toilet at a 90 degree angle to the door or several feet away from it.
  • Visibility: To ensure privacy, position the toilet so it's not the first thing people see when they enter the bathroom. You can try placing it off to the side of the door or behind the vanity.

@iloveyoubutilovememore I'd either change the shower for a bath with shower over the top, or, depending on room, move the basin to the left (closer to the loo) and put a bath along the wall to the right of the door
