Sellers not quite being straight?

We put a good offer in for a house that was accepted a few weeks ago, so we asked some questions about this wall that appears wet & was told it was just a bit of condensation as house was empty. We had a survey & the surveyor pointed out that the wall is saturated because the water is seeping through the wall & suggested that we ask what insulation is in the walls.

So we went back with a view of making a lower offer but before we had the chance as if by magic the owner had already requested their own survey of the walls to remove the insulation (that apparently should never have been put in there).
They must have known about this problem & hoped we weren't going to discover this?! The revised offer hasn't been accepted I think they're trying to get a quote to try to pin down how much it'll cost to remove the insulation. But it's not just that thats going to put it right - after taking advice it's quite a bit more than just pulling stuff out of the walls.

I'm so pissed off and am not feeling we can trust these sellers. But we're going to see what they come back with & we have another type of survey lined up if we're unhappy with theirs.
I just think they could have been a bit more up front & I'm just wondering what else they've not told us & if we can trust their survey. Also, time is the essence, we want to get moving but this is going to slow things up quite a bit.

They may not have realised what the issue was until it was brought up by potential buyers. If its the house you want then I would wait to see what they say. Loads of people had cavity wall insulation that was not suitable for their properties so hopefully it's an easy fix.

I imagine the surveyor needed to gain access via the Estate Agent or owners and it’s realistic to think a conversation between them was had when the keys were returned. That’s probably what prompted the owners to look at the wall further.

Hmm maybe...
But the surveyor was worth his weight in gold.
And we know now so we need to get them to properly solve it.

Many people put up with broken things in their homes (and elsewhere). It could be they wanted an easy sale or it could be they just stuck their heads in the sand about finding out the exact issue.

People can hide things though -- you just hope it's nothing too big. We moved into our house last year. It needed a new fireplace right away. I was a little annoyed as the previous owners said the fireplace had been checked a number of months before so I took them at their word and assumed it was older but good for a few more years while we sorted out other things around the house. There was no way their check hadn't picked up the split so they would have known and deliberately hid it.

I agree, it's just giving me anxiety because we bought a previous house where this exact thing happened & we were lied to, which was very expensive.
So we're not about to be stung again. I'm hopeful that they will share the quote & things can start to mobilise.

It's not clear whether you've made a new offer or not?

Yes we did & we've not had a response as yet. I think this is why they're getting quotes. But emptying the walls won't be enough apparently there's more to it than that.

The sellers won't accept our offer, appears to think there's no real work needed despite the fact that we've had a survey stating that it does. Like quite urgent work. I keep being told it's a buyers market but it doesn't quite feel like that
