Hi everybody!
We moved UK 2 years ago and we are leaving in Watford. our DD has started reception this sep and she's settled well in the school. I got a job recently in cambridge. its hybrid working so I'm planning to travel by car pool from watford to cambridge. as we are living on rent and thinking to buy a house next year. i am so confused about move near cambridge during term time or move during easter holiday. Can anyone pls give suggestion in this regard. I have checked Cardiganshire school accept 60 days before application. I'm looking places outskirts of cambridge (20 min drive) , any recommendations for places would be also great help.

There are some threads in the Local - Cambridge section of MN which might be of help.

My children are older and I live in the city centre so I can’t offer any direct advice. That page links to threads about where to live close to Cambridge and also some with information about schools.

Be aware that traffic into Cambridge can be very busy during rush hours. It might be helpful if you can tell us which side of Cambridge your job will be located. If you’ll be working on the Science Park living in one of the villages to the north and using the guided busway can be a good plan, I understand. The busway also runs to the Biomedical Campus, but that involves some sections crossing the city on normal roads.

Thanks for the reply. I will have a look links pointed by you. My office is at outskirts of Cambridge on Fulbourn road.

I used to work in Fulbourn Road and driving there will be fine if you move to one of the villages South of Cambridge or even to the East. (But a traffic nightmare if you are coming from the north or west of Cambridge.) The good news is all the villages around those areas are all very nice and generally have good schools - but are pricey. Look at places like Fulbourn, Linton, Great Chesterford Duxford or any with good access to the A11 and M11. Saffron Walden is lovely but expensive. You could also go towards Newmarket which is a bit cheaper and has easy access via the A11. Sawston is also slightly cheaper than some of the villages around there. I used to go in to Fulbourn Road daily and Watford a couple of times a month from Saffron Walden. Took me less than half an hour to get to Fulbourn and about 1hr 15 to Watford from there.

Thanks. I have heard about places like Camborne and northstowe also. Do you have anything to say for those places ?

Camborne and Northstow are the opposite side of Cambridge from Fulbourn road so you would have a more difficult journey in. Plus Northstow has almost no amenities so I wouldn't look there.
