Is this plaster or paint peeling ? (with pics!)

Have been removing some wallpaper, not sure if I've lifted the plaster or it's just paint?

It's a stone wall (the grey bit).

Thanks!

It looks just like the paint film has detached. Is there any plaster? If the grey bit is stone, it looks like paint has been applied directly to the stone. The paint can sometimes blister a bit before coming away.

That makes sense, the wall is covered in these "blisters" after pulling off the wallpaper. I think the paint has been applied directly on to the stone.

I suspect the stone wall wasn't prepared properly before painting. It should have been sealed with a primer first, and not doing that can cause the paint to flake off. It looks like it might be concrete rather than stone - same principle though. The other reason for blistering would be damp, but this is unlikely if they are all over, and damp probably be obvious.

I've had this on some of the walls in my house. I was told the plaster hadn't been mist coated or something.
On the advice of a professional decorator, we removed as much of the paint as possible, did it with Zinsser (sp?) and then gave it a good paint job.
It's fine now.

I would say that looks like a concrete wall rather than stone.
Or possibly a concrete render, in place of plaster.
Either way, it hasn’t been prepped properly prior to painting.

The paint is peeling off because the bottom layer should have been a mist coat, which would seal the concrete. The concrete has basically sucked all the moisture out of the paint and stopped it from sticking properly.

Scrape the loose paint off. Paint the wall with a thinned mixture of paint (1/2 emulsion paint and 1/2 water) then once that’s dry paint as normal.

Had paint peel off from plaster in our bathroom OP. It happened immediately after I scrubbed the ceiling, most likely with the wrong product. Also keen to know how to fix this. Do I simply scrape the damaged area and paint over it? Can’t remember which paint the workmen used on ceiling plaster.

It doesn't look as though there is any plaster on the wall. I agree that the wall hasn't been primed.
