Second Estate Agent Fees

I was with estate agent A for a few months, switched to B and provided them with the names and dates of viewings with agent A.

Agent B called up and booked a viewing and I recognised the name in the email after, it was a previous viewer with Agent A. Called agent B and told them and they insist they would split the fees with Agent A if the viewer was to offer, it happens all the time and I should let the viewing go ahead.
Opinions please, the viewing was 5 months ago and I’m concerned, should I get something in writing before going ahead? Thanks

I would be checking the contacts. You may have to pay the full fee to agent A who originally introduced the prospective buyer and agent B may want money too.

Thanks, contract is 6 months. I think best to cancel as feels wrong. Different if it was unintentional but to agree to the viewing knowing doesn’t sit right with me.

Maybe viewer doesn't want to deal with agent A. Also, it would be their second viewing so seems keen. I would let it go ahead and you can make the decision on the offer in you own time after getting written agreements about the fees.

It's quite normal for Estate Agents to split fees in these circumstances and there will be a clause about it in all the standard contracts. I'm not entirely sure what your query is?

Thanks for replies.

My query was asking if I should get it in writing before allowing a viewing to proceed.

I didn't want to become involved in a spat between agents over fees, it would have much easier if they’d just approached the original agent but as someone said above there could be a reason they don’t want to deal with them.

Never been in the situation before so don’t know the etiquette and I don’t want any legal comeback on us.
