Help with render colour please!

We are just about to have our late 1920s not especially beautiful house insulated and the grotty pebbledash will be replaced with render. We are keeping the bricks on the lower half of the front elevation and the white sash windows will remain. I'm thinking not white as the windows will be slightly lost and nothing too creamy. As the bricks are red, I'm not sure about light grey will work? Can anyone help with any suggestions please?

We also need to replace the front door and surround. I don't think I want to go black but am not sure about colour or style. Any ideas welcome! Thank you

@Lou0607 It’s to my taste, big improvement. I think I suggested white and a soft white really works. We have very similar!

It looks great!

I think you could have pretty much any colour front door. Maybe a powder blue.

TooTiredToType77 · 07/01/2025 22:07

Have a look on Pinterest for coloured front doors...you really could go for any colour you like! Emerald green, pastel pink, gastro pub green...save some pics that you like and see what works for you. Render looks fab BTW!

This looks lovely! What colour and brand did you go for please?

TheTwenties · 13/09/2025 15:21

It looks really nice, we’ll be in need of render soon and that looks like the sort of thing we’re after. Make and colour would be really helpful.

We used Johnstone’s Stormshield Render over the top of the insulation. After much deliberation, the colour we went for is called Connie. It’s a very soft off white and we’re really pleased with it. Hope that helps.

@Lou0607 The transformation looks amazing - I’ve got some quotes just to do the front of my house (live in a terraced house) quotes range from £7k - £12k - do you mind me asking how much yours cost, also did they take the pebble dash off first before completing the work

Fifiesta · 17/10/2025 14:15

That looks very gorgeous OP. 100% the correct decision.

I had a quote earlier this year for a 4 bed detached house in Norfolk for £67,000. This included removing all the existing render and adding 80mm external insulation boards and then putting on a breathable silicone render. The job would have involved moving pipes, extending the roof and doing something to the windows.
in the end, we decided at that price, it wasn’t worth it.

Our pebbledash was sound so we were able to put the EWI over the top, no need to try and take it all off. We then had 90mm EWI over the top and then the silicone render. The pipes on the gable end wall were all moved and we opted not to have the roofline extended. Instead we had a trim put on the edge of the tiles so that there is an overhang and damp won’t be an issue. This works out to be a much cheaper way of doing it and while it doesn’t look quite so nice, I don’t think it’s really that noticeable. All the windowsills were extended too. It was quite a big job but we were only a few thousand above the top of your range. The work all comes with an independent guarantee and we were very happy with the quality of the work. If you’re based around Cambs / Herts / Beds / East Anglia and want the details of the company we used then send me a message.

Thank you Lou0607 that’s really helpful

Shinybrightdarling · 20/10/2025 20:17

It looks so much better now!

ThorsRaven · 21/10/2025 03:22

How about a traditional 1920s / 1930s style door with stained glass?

Pale Blue door with glazed surround

Sage green art nouveau door

Panel art nouveau door

Square window door

Art deco blue sunburst stained glass

You could have the porch glazed quite simply like this, and then have the main front door within the porch.

lavendarwillow · 21/10/2025 21:42

House looks beautiful OP. I have a real aversion to pebbledash and you’ve made your house look absolutely lovely.
