Bathroom/shower screen. Is it really needed??

Hi all, just wondering if any of you hate shower screens as much as I do and just have gone without. I don't like the curtain look either especially since the main bathroom is tiny anyway. Can you simply not have one? I'd rather clean tej floor daily than a shower screen. I am in the process of planning a bathroom renovation and adding a smallish ensuite so feedback, ideas will be gratefully received!

Well you need something surely.... ?

If you're going to use the bath as a shower then yes you need something. The place will be soaked otherwise.

It's to prevent water damage as much as anything else.

If you're renovating and want a wet room, you need to get the floor properly fitted / tanking etc. Otherwise it'll all come through in the end.

You can get the whole room made out as a wet room then you won't need the screen / curtain

I guess your options are screen, curtain or wet room/flooded floor. Personally screens are my preferred solution as I hate the whole floor being wet and curtains sticking to your legs.

If too much water gets on the floor and it isn't a wet room then you risk shorting your downstairs lighting and getting rot in you bathroom floor. Not something I would risk for aesthetics but I guess it's up to you? Maybe less of an issue if you are the only person using the bathroom and are happy to make sure the water stays in the bath or is absorbed by something else like a bath mat if not.

Thank you all. Very helpful so I guess we will still need a small one to contain the water. The ensuite we are adding is really small with sloping ceilings, so adding enclosure is even more tricky (and having the glass cut to measure is super expensive)

We have 2 wet rooms, I have one and DH has one in his room. I pull my shower curtain on every time I shower, he doesn’t. The long term effect of soaking even a wet room, is an eye opener. They were both fitted at the same time, they are both cleaned the same, but mine still looks like new and his doesn’t.

it also means that the whole room becomes wet, so when you walk out you have wet feet. Then it stays wet unless you mop it up a bit, for a surprising long time, meaning the room goes nasty and every time you go in there you get wet feet.

ive told DH that if he doesn’t start pulling the curtain on, I’m not cleaning it any more !

I had none in my last house (5 showers). But I did have a tiled wall separating the shower from the rest of the room in all but one, which is not necessarily doable in a very small shower room.

We have a two panel shower screen which is fairly new. I decided not to fully open the end panel the other day (so there was a gap between panels), resulting in a noticeable puddle of water on the floor.

I hate the glass screens too. We've opted for a curtain.
