Moving next week ... when do I?

Hi all,

Nearly 14 months after putting our house on the market and 9 months after accepting an offer we FINALLY should move next week!

Because we exchange and complete on the same day (not my choice but it's agreed now) nothing will be set in stone until the day so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me when I ......

Redirect the mail (it can take a week to go through apparently)
Purchase house insurance for the new house

(I'm sure I'll think of other things that I'll add - thank you all for your help!)

You need the insurance ready for exchange. Unless you do the RM redirection now you will need to arrange to collect any post. There is an online form to notify companies or you can do so individually,

Your insurances need to be in place on exchange (buildings and contents plus any mortgage protection you might be taking). You can set up your policy now and give the provider a start date, so it starts on exchange. I have just done this for some clients and its no problem. if you need any more info let me know, i would be happy to help..
I would do the post a couple of days before exchange, just so you know the exchange and completion is definitely happening on that day. Is your old house going to be very far from your new house? I am sure the new owners wouldn't' mind keeping your post for you.

Thank you. I think my concern is that with exchange and completion on the same day we aren't going to know until the day that it is 100% happening.

I probably just need to believe that it is actually going to go ahead and just do it?! I imagine the insurance can be done instantly online but the redirection obviously needs to be done in advance.

Mail redirections come with a 14-day cooling off period and insurance possibly does too? So I’d do it in advance and cancel if needed.

Set up a royal mail redirection! Much easier for you, and means whoever is moving into where you've left isn't getting your post months down the line.

Ahhhh great. Didn't even think of that! Thanks
