Back to back ikea pax?

Is there any reason I shouldn't do this to divide a room?

I think one of the first Ikea Hackers hacks was someone using Ikea Pax to divide a studio room so the bed was hidden. They didn't do back to back just did something decorative on the back of them for the lounge side. This has been copied many times.

I think the only thing is the depth, if you are using the normal depth ones they are 60cm deep so 1.2m wall if you like. Then there are the shallow depth ones, far less great for storing clothes on a hanging rail and not deep enough for hangers so they go front to back.

I have a lot of Pax wardrobes and I cannot see an issue back to backing them.

They are really deep so unless you’ve got an enormous room the usual ones are going to take up 1.2m; I suppose you can have sliding doors.
Safety wise - how would you secure them in place? If a child climbed one you’d want to make sure it wouldn’t topple over.

I would probably do one row of shallow and one row of deep ones, thinking to fix them to each other with a simple screw on bracket. I'm not sure they could topple could they?

Here's my attempt at a drawing! It's on the plans, the solid black suggestion is the architect's, that we get a custom built one. I'm not convinced as I think it would be easier to have Ikea standard as we can adapt it as we use it. This will be the only "storage" in the flat, so I need to maximise it. It will have to take the bed linen, towels, spare duvets, sleeping bags etc etc as well as our clothes.

Would you leave open, or want doors (are curtains a viable alternative?) on it? Would the shelves and clothes get dusty? It's marked on the plans as a walk in wardrobe area, but is in effect a mini corridor to the bathroom.

Would you bother with a (sliding) door to the bedroom?

The only thing that bothers me is a) the back of the cupboards, we'd have to hide the visible ones somehow and b) the lost 10 cm of the corner cupboard, so the widths won't match up.

I'm thinking about it too - to create a dressing area in my attic bedroom. I'm not sure we have quite enough space.
