Non-Standard construction

This will be our last move, 3 options, all in a village, that I love, option 1 is a terraced house with fab views from the back, needs no work doing. Option 2 dormer bungalow, don't like the back garden but we could improve on it. No real views. Option 3 bungalow needs work, fab views, but non-stansard construction, but we don't need a mortgage. Which would you go for, all around the same price

Are any of them detached?

AllGonePeteTongg · 13/10/2024 15:07

You are very lucky to find three options in a village you love. We really struggled to find anything suitable over a wide area 18 months ago and had to compromise. I would be very cautious about the non standard construction and need more information. We did a self build in 2008 and looked at several options some more acceptable than others. Although it’s your home it’s also probably your biggest investment and circumstances do change. The options with views would be my preference although make sure they aren’t going to be built on - there’s a lot of that about!!

The non standard is detached, the dormer is semi detached

Thanks, I agree we first looked at the village 2 yrs ago and couldn't find anywhere. That is my quandary with regards to the nonstandard property

As the non standard build is detached with great views and needs work anyway is knocking it down and starting again a realistic option at all??

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/10/2024 16:41

This is potentially a great idea. Assuming you have somewhere to live in tbe meantime.

There are some really good self-build kits (you don't have to do them yourself) and some mortgage companies will give you a phased mortage as the work progresses.

So the location/view is the prime consideration in this situation.

Edited as I meant to link to @AllGonePeteTongg suggestion to rebuild.

Not really, front needs painting, new carpets throughout, new bathroom & kitchen, new radiators & then decorating

I have a non-standard constructed house. Thatched, timber framed, not a brick to it, sits on steddle stones for the foundations, visitors are fascinated by it. What is yours built from?

eurochick · 13/10/2024 18:24

How non-standard is it? Made of cardboard or just a non-standard roof or something?

DeliciousApples · 13/10/2024 18:57

When you come to sell you will only be able to sell to other people who can't get mortgages.

That means less competition from buyers from your house.

But if you could get a building plot on the side or something to build a new property then you'd be quids in.

I'm not an expert, but I think it is made with concrete panels.

It's a Woolaway construction.
