Ex landlord contacting us 3 months after we moved out

Hey everyone, long story short we were served a section 21 back in June as they were selling the house, moved into a new place July. Deposit was all paid back to us etc.

Our ex landlord is now emailing us asking for details of when the chimney sweep last came or when the windows were last cleaned.

We have ignored the emails so far but do they actually have any redress? Surely any concerns should have been raised BEFORE we left

It's just a question. If you know, let them know. If you don't, say so.

Why the need to ignore?

Exactly. Why is everyone so stroppy ?

They can’t come after your deposit 3 months later over window cleaning! It’s probably been asked during conveyancing, he doesn’t know but thought you probably do so dropped you a quick text to ask. If you know the answer then why not take 10 seconds to reply and say so, if you don’t then say you don’t know. It really isn’t a big deal.

This ... just common courtesy

Notasunnydayhere · 11/10/2024 09:41

Blocking or ignoring someone is such a childish response, who not be a reasonable adult and answer? He just wants to know if you had the chimney cleaned, as if so, you may have a certificate he can pass on to the solicitor for the buyers. As for the window cleaning, just say you don't recall.

Hoppinggreen · 11/10/2024 09:43

Its not ususual for chinmey sweeping and window cleaning to be listed in the Tenancy agreement as the Tenants responsibility BUT the contract has ended and you have the deposit back so nothing at the property has anything to do with you any more
Ignore

@Squigglebit

If selling the buyers solicitor would usually ask [for safety] when the chimney was last swept [should be every year at least]. Nothing sinister. Either simply say approximate date if you had it done or "we now have no record"

Agree.

I don't understand the issue with taking one minute to either give the info or say 'I don't remember'. Unless LL was a dickhead and you want to be annoying.

Sometimes I think humans have forgotten how to human.

mondaytosunday · 11/10/2024 15:31

Why not just answer? I don't understand the issue. Were you supposed to have the chimney swept and didn't? Were you supposed to have the windows cleaned and didn't?
If you were I'd want the certificate from the chimney sweep - it's not expensive but I'd want it fur my records and to know when next one is due. The windows - meh, they are either clean or not. Either way I think it's a reasonable question.
