We are looking to out our house for sale in February/march time
My child is in y2 in an infant school and i have to apply for a primary school by the end of November i believe . What do you do when you move house with school applications ? If for example we are moved to the new area by summer would i be able to get him into a new school ?

You'll probably have to do an in-year application (I think that's what it is called). You can look at the website for the area you're planning to move to for specific information. If you contact them they should be able to tell you which schools have space in the right year.

That will be the In Year admissions process. The local council will be obliged to find him a place.

Probably a good idea to apply for his Junior school place based on your current address in case you don't move as well.

You usually don’t have as much control over these things as you want! There’s no telling how long your house will take to sell and then the conveyancing process can really vary depending on whether there’s a chain/ how long etc. Might be wise to consider renting somewhere to give yourself more control?

If it’s any help, for our move, I emailed a couple of local primary schools first to gauge where/ whether there was likely to be space (our children are moving within year 1 and year 3) and then on the basis of that did an in-year application. Also as a child I moved primary school 5 times due to house moves mostly and it definitely did me no harm, so I’d try not to stress too much about it.
