Advice on fitted wardrobes

I hope someone can help.

I'm looking to get two fitted wardrobes in the bedroom alcoves beside the fireplace. I was looking at the big brands but they seem very expensive so I thought about getting someone local.

I've found a couple of people on Gumtree and judging by their photos they seem ok. Do I get wood or MDF? I was looking at drawers at the bottom, then a rail for clothes, then shelves at the top for storage.

Does that sound good and any idea on price?

Thanks

I had this done by a local carpenter. He recommended MDF. He made them and fitted them and I painted them - look great.

I'm so pleased you're happy with your wardrobes. I'll look at MDF then. Can you give an approximate price? Thanks

if You have Instagram if you type in alcovewardrobes into the search bar and then when The list comes up clips on tags.
theres about 1000 posts you could have a look at the designs.

I think it was about £400 for two floor to ceiling cupboards with shelves either side of a fireplace.

Wow! I've seen prices for 4k. That's very reasonable. Thank you.

Ours are MDF by a local company and were considerably cheaper than the big chains!

Wow @Denyite that's a reasonable price, won't likely get this down south. We probably paid £700 per wardrobe inclusive of materials, and that was considered reasonable

I would avoid sliding doors, it is much better to be able to open both doors and look at there's 'nothing to wear' in one go rather than going from side to side.
