Can I just cover over this backsplash?

Hello! I'm moving into a new flat next month. It has this plastic-y backsplash throughout the kitchen. I don't love it as a colour scheme, but I'm spending all my dosh on the flat.

So my question is, can I just stick on those adhesive fake tiles on top of the backsplash as a temporary measure until I can replace it properly?

Err, I think that still just has the blue protective plastic coating that goods are often shipped with stuck onto it. I have seen extractor fans and many ovens covered with stuff that colour. It just peels off. It’s to stop stuff getting scratched en route. It’s likely to be transparent behind that covering.

I wish... This is most definitely a turquoise backspash with no coating. The previously owner was very proud of it. He also left all the receipts etc from when he put in the new kitchen, and it's listed as turquoise panelling.

It's not unworkably hideous. I just think it looks a little cheap, and it's really hard to coordinate anything else with it. I'm wondering if stuck on tiles would imrpvoe the look, or just seem even more cheap. What do you reckon?

I reckon you would never get them off and you would get charged for fitting a brand new splashback. You just said he was very proud of it so he won’t be best pleased with you.

Maybe you can make it look less awful by putting different coloured canisters, kettle, toaster and utensil holder in the kitchen so the hideous colour looks like it is part of a jolly kitchen colour scheme. And not just a hideous, standalone colour that seems to have no purpose.

Sorry not clear whether you are buying this place or renting?
If it's your place and you intend to replace the splashback eventually, yes, why not try the sticky tiles for now? I think it could look nice. Not top class obviously but it'll change the overall look and last a while.

Sorry, I own the property now. I just meant the previous owner was very proud of the turquoise is all lol. But I've done a bit more research, and saw the adhesive stuff doesn't handle water well, which means it probably won't last long above my hob.

My tiling was £200 I have 9 base cupboards - try Studio 24 for stick on tiles and save up for have it redone.

I would just remove it, sand the adhesive off and paint with a kitchen friendly paint that you can wipe clean.
