If you had £3,000 a month to rent a one bed, where in London?

So DP and I are moving to London for work. We’ll both have promotions but work will be very very demanding. We’ll both work near Bank.

Our plan is to do these jobs for a few years to build up a good flat/house deposit. Our combined take home pay after pensions will be £150k p.a.

I think a budget of £3,000 for a flat sounds reasonable on that salary. For us location is more important than flat interiors. But if we just get a one bed we shouldn’t need to compromise too much.

Where would you live?

Shad Thames. With a balcony. I’ll see if I can find any suitable flats.
30 min walk to Bank. Perfect.

If you would a short commute

Barbican would suit some.

Borough or Shad thames is going to give you very good options and theres a lot on your doorstep.
That would be my first pick

If you could stomach a longer commute primrose hill would be my choice.

I do NOT recommend bloomsbury.
If you are going that way marylebone is a much better pick. commute will be similar to primrose hill

Shad Thames - balcony, gym & swimming pool!

Edited

This is what i am talking about.
They are all concierged so packages and deliveries are sorted. They have decent gyms and pools.
Good restaurants and bars on your doorstep and you are next to south bank and borough market at the weekends

This is in budget and a 2 bed....

If you want somewhere period and residential feeling then I’d look around Angel - quick commute, lovely Georgian/early Victorian architecture and nice weekend social/shopping options. East of Angel near Regent’s canal or just south around Myddleton Square are lovely.

However my first question would be: do you already have good friends in London? If so are they clustered in one area? If they are - live there, or not too far (assuming it’s an ok commute).

I’d live somewhere like Brixton.

Sense of community, lively place for young people, v easy tube journey, friends are unlikely to live in the City area, all night tube, excellent cinema, theatre, market, brilliant park with Lido, great cafes, restaurants and bars.

I used to live in Wapping, it was very nice and quiet. I worked in the city, and I used to walk to work in around 30 minutes. There's also DLR at Shadwell, which is 1 stop to bank or 100 bus route

You'd be better off with a mortgage straight away at least it would be yours.

I’d choose Holland Park but it is close to 20 minutes on the Central Line into Bank.

Marylebone

My DD has just rented a flat in Battersea right by the river. It’s beautiful.

Agree Shad Thames- we used to live there before DC- I worked at St Pauls, DH worked at Bank. We used to just walk over the bridges.
