How long for conveyancing? (Generally?)

In a straightforward ‘chain’- our buyer and seller are both moving from/into rented accommodation. Was talking with mortgage broker earlier who said conveyancing can be around 5 months :/ Is it this true? It seems really long! We last moved five years ago and I can’t remember, but feel it was a lot quicker than that.

For a chain like that I would anticipate about 12 weeks.
you could do in 8 weeks if everyone was particularly motivated and you got a decent turnaround with surveys.

Thanks @Phonicshaskilledmeoff 12 weeks sounds about right for last time we moved if I’m recalling it correctly.. I just wondered why the mortgage advisor was saying it can take 5 months?! Especially with it being a quieter market at the moment, would that not mean they are less rushed off their feet?

I think it depends how pushy you all are! We are going to hit the 9 month mark before we get moved! My friend just did it in 8 weeks but she was on the solicitors case all the time.

9 months?? Why is it taking that long, seems crazy!

It is, indeed, crazy. One thing after another to be honest. And insanely slow processes! I think our case is really the exception rather than the rule though - I think around 3 months is average.

We were told 16 weeks with a chain of four, whole process started a couple of weeks ago and I can already tell we have a loooooong way to go. Our solicitor is really on the ball but it’s our buyers solicitor who seems to be moving at snails pace.
